Network Hard Drive

Got a network hard drive setup now. I want to know if it is possible to setup the windows synchronization so that anytime I save a file to the hard drive of one of my desktops on the network, it will automatically save a copy of that file to the network hard drive. Is this possible in Windows XP without using software? I really don't want software running in the background all the time.

Just got a new Dell with Windows 7. I'm trying to update the firmware on my BCD396T. I have downloaded BCD396T V3 02 02.zip and BC VUP v2.0.0.7.zip. The instructions are to "unzip these files to your desktop". How do I accomplish this? When I double click on these files, I don't have an option to save to my desktop. I know this is probably a basic question but I am really struggling with this. I was able to successfully upgrade my BCD396T from 1.06.00 to 1.20.13. It seems I may be on the right track, however this has me confused. Is extract and unzip the same thing? I suspect not. Thanks for any help.

Westell Modem Startech Ethernet Install

I just spent a LONG LONG TIME typing this post into your forum and it disappeared. SO, I am composing it first in my BLOG so that it will NOT disappear.

I use Verizon DSL with a Westell 327W Router. I have one Dell Windows XP hard wired to the router, and second XP connected via WiFi with a Belkin USB adapter.

I want to take a 3rd computer, an Ubuntu desktop install, and use a startec.com ST100S 10/100 mbps Ethernet PCI, which claims to have a Linux driver.

BIG QUESTION: If I do succeed in attaching the Ubuntu Desktop through the startech ethernet, is there any danger that the Westell modem will somehow be reset or reconfigured or disturbed so that I lose Internet and have to wait for a Verizon technician to show up and fix things. IF there IS such a danger, then I will go with wifi for the Ubuntu desktop.

Westell Modem Startech Ethernet Install

I have Verizon DSL with a Westell Model 327W router, with one Windows XP computer hard wired to the router and a second Windows XP computer connected via wifi with a Belkin USB ADAPTOR.

The Westell has sockets for 4 more computers to be hard wired to it.

I am not very technically knowledgeable, but here is what I need to know and why I am asking.

A relative is giving me an old computer and I have an Ubuntu install disk ready to make that computer into a pure Ubuntu desktop (With no windows partition). I am fairly certain that I can get a USB wifi that will install to connect it to the internet. I even found one youtube "how-to" clip showing a USB WiFi adapter being installed on an Ubuntu machine.

BUT, I found an Ethernet card which claims to offer Linux support. It is by www.startech.com ST100S 10/100 mbps Ethernet PCI.

HERE IS MY BIG QUESTION: IF, I use the startech, and plug a cable from their card and the Ubuntu desktop into the Westell, and CONFIGURE the card for that westell, IS THERE ANY DANGER THAT THE CONFIGURATION WILL CHANGE SOMETHING IN THE WESTELL SETUP that will interrupt my Verizon DSL service? IF there is some danger of that, I will prefer to go with WiFi since I know that WiFi adapter will not change the Westell configuration. BUT, if I know that the startech configuration does not change the Westell, then I am better off with the ethernet connection, since it will be faster than wifi, and the startech board is only $10. Thanks for any advice or tips!

Winamp broadcasting?

I am trying to get my Winamp to work as a radio station, i downloaded the DSP plug in, and i do EVERYTHING it tells me too, and i still have no luck broadcasting my radio station :o
Does anyone use this application or can you point me in the direction of an application that will work for my radio station?

Problem with my Feed Computer

Hi All,

I have an old Compaq Presario V2000 running XP Home Edition that I use for a scanner feed. It hasn't beeen cleaned out in sometime so I thought it would be best to refresh it and bring it back to factory settings. With said, I put the XP disk in and after a few minutes of processing, this appeared, "Windows could not start becuse the following file is missing or corrupt: \system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file"

I have researched all over the net to find a fix for it however, what I do type in during the recovery mode doesn't seem to work.

Anyone with any suggestions and/or recommendations, please contact me. Thank you very much in advance!

I just got a account with Google Wave which is a new form of online real time collaboration tool. It can be used like a forum, wiki, IM, E-mail and more in in one.

About Google Wave

One "Wave" Idea I have will to make a live event wave when there is a major incident somewhere. This wave can have the live scanner feed link, map of location, up to the minute details, and links to live news feeds. the advantage is anyone on the wave can add too, edit, and use the information in real time.

The one problem at this point is that you need to be invited to join Google Wave. You cannot really do much without an account. I have a few invites available. Please though if your just wanting to try wave hold off as I want some people that are willing to work on some ideas of waves that will be useful for our community.

Repeater/Access Point

I picked up a D-Link DWL-G710 repeater for my wireless setup. I've followed the instructions to the T, but still cannot get it to connect correctly. Anyone ever use one of these?

My settings:

Main wireless router is on the 192.168.2.1 channel 11 with WEP. I have my G710 set as follows:

IP Address 192.168.2.10
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.2.1

The WEP/Channel/SSID are identical as the Gateway (which from what I understand has to be the same as the main wireless router).

The repeater is plugged in and appears to be working (I can access it and read the info), but I'm not able to get the repeated signal. One other thing is that when I do a site survey with the software, it does see my main wireless, but what is strange is that the MAC is identical EXCEPT that the last number is different! When I read the main router, it shows the MAC as 00:19:5b:53:15:e1 ##:##:##:##:##:14, but the site survey shows it as .15!

Any help is appreciated as upstairs I'm only getting a 40% signal.

I have a 10 year old computer that I pretty much use only to stream a feed for RR.... I also have some extra scanners lying around that I would like to utilize for a second feed but I'd like to run both feeds on that machine......

Is it possible to install a second sound card in that pc thus making a second feed possible?......

if so, what is a card that would work and where can I find one that will offer a stereo input that is not too expensive... yeah yeah I know, ebay, but which card? There are 4,000 of them and I don't even know if what I wanna do is even possible....

If running two cards is possible, I don't know what system info one would need to figure out what would work...

running win 2000 --
maxed out at 768 mb memory ---
there is one pci slot available on the motherboard.....
the soundcard in there now says "model ct4500" which I looked up to be a Creative Labs CT4500 Sound Blaster AWE64....

Realplayer 12 wont install, whats the deal?

I downloaded realplayer 12 before and it installed but im not sure whats preventing it from installing on my computer.

I recently reuploaded windows on it so i doubt thats the issue.

Does anyone have any pointers or advice and tell me what could be preventing it from being installed?

I just simply downloaded realplayer 12 and did the usual install process then maybe 11% it would say it would bring up another screen that would say, get your 14 day trial etc.

Something on my PC like a firewall or something? virus preventing installing??

Need help on this . Right now we use a westell wireless modem . It is used for a desktop and a laptop. The modem is in one room and the desktop is used in another . Laptop is used all over the house . We would like to get a ATT aircard for the laptop so we can take it on vacation with us . I do not wish to pay for 2 internet services . So my question is , is there any way to get something that would let us travel with the lap to but still use the desktop at home . We have used a ( USB sierra wireless aircard 595u) befor . Can it be adapted to work in the modem so both the desktop and laptop can be used at home ? I'm trying to use my desktop and the wifes laptop at the same time at home but still us the laptop on vacation . I hope I explained this right and hope someone can help .
