Improvements

Featured items in this release are Site Lock and inline decoding of EDACS and Motorola from the BC346XT, BCD396XT, and BCD996XT (P25 and LTR need testing).

Site Lock

Site Lock is a check box found in the Decode section of your receiver's settings. In the past, the program responded to control channel number change as if it was now monitoring a different system (and went through the motions of re-discovering the system). If you have a radio programmed to follow the control channel for an EDACS system - checking this option tells the program to not abandon the currently monitored system. Be careful with this option. While monitoring one EDACS system and tuning your radio to another EDACS system can contaminate your logged data. When searching for new control channels, be sure to turn this option off. This option has no effect on LTR, Motorola, MPT1327 or P25 decoding (but may be useful in the future for following multiple home channels).

BCD396/996XT decoding

This release tested with a BCD996XT for Motorola and EDACS decoding. It should work with the BC346XT and BCD396XT. XT model owners are encouraged to test this out. You will need to manually enable CC dump by pressing the radio's menu button and following the prompts. Set option to "On" or "Extended". For the '996XT select the appropriate port (front or back). Quick key to the system you want to monitor and hold on control channel.

P25 and LTR decoding should work but are - at the moment - untested. Note: Initial support is very basic. Eventually I'll get around to pulling the control channel frequency from the decoding radio. For EDACS and LTR, you'll have to manually enter the frequency into the program.

New features

NEW: SiteLock option added for EDACS decoding.
NEW: Radio Shack PRO-107 added as a signal receiver - untested.
NEW: customize oscilloscope trace and background color.

Fixed Items

FIX: Inline decoding for the BC346XT, BCD396XT and BCD996XT.
FIX: Volume bug affecting these and similar models.
FIX: remember audio device by name not device number (can change for USB audio devices).
FIX: selecting audio device had no effect - wave mapper was always used.

Open Issues

Windows 9X
Park frequency taken as control channel frequency
Other numerous issues

This version seems completely stable and the decoding seems flawless, even on our dreaded San Diego County RCS system, 470F. :)

There may be an issue with voice following on this system, however.

The setup is: one R8500 for decoding, another R8500 for following, and a 996T for verification, all fed from a Stridsberg MCA204M splitter (thanks to Scott for the tip)... so all three see the same signal.

UT agrees with the 996T most of the time except infrequently when the 996T misses a transmission (so far, I have never seen UT miss one that the 996T detects).

But voice following for my setup is problematic: the voice following R8500 will be switched to the correct voice frequency and will remain there for ~2 seconds. It will then return to the Park frequency. Along with this, in the UT activity window the active TG will be highlighted for about 2 seconds and then not... although it will remain on screen for the duration of the transmission (as determined by listening to the 996T).

This occurs for both analog and digital transmissions.

At first I was running with Option/Listen/Enabled = X and Option/Listen/Priority = 50.

SD RCS is a *very* busy system so I thought the disruption was due to UT jumping to every new transmission that occurred.

To rule this out I set Option/Listen/Priority = 10 and set a small collection of talkgroups to Priority = 10 in order to lower the chance one talkgroup would step on another one, at least for ones in that collection.

It then became clear that the voice following receiver would be re-parked after ~2 seconds even when no other group in that small collection became active.

Using the AR5000 as the voice follower I observed the same issue with re-parking after ~2 seconds.

I tried this with a UHF EDACS group. Here the voice following receiver would remain on an active TG until the next TG became active... at which time it would jump to that TG.

Maybe all this has been addressed before, but I couldn't find it.

One additional question (if I may hijack my own thread for a moment): Is there a flag to make active talkgroups go dark instantaneously at the end of transmission, rather than the slow fade currently in place? This would make hunting down the frequencies in (for instance) a forrest of EDACS systems a lot easier... :)

Thanks!

I am not able to perform the discriminator mod at this time, so I'm restricted to tools that work through the PC/IF port. (Or, if they actually worked, tools that work solely off an untapped headphone jack, but I don't have high hopes.) EDACS is a bonus.

Unitrunker has a Pro106 "inline" option, which seems to be what I want, but not for the Pro96. Will it work if I can find the right settings, or are the two radios too different?

Pro96Com is not an option because it works only with 9600bps P25 systems.

Sorry if this is old issue, Rick, but I've been using retro until today.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK... just gave it one more try and here's the fix!

For some reason (at least on my XP system) the new versions (1.0.0.6 and up) will not properly select a sound card input when multiple adapters are present.

But if you set the desired adapter as the default (using the PC soundcard application) then Unitrunker 1.0.0.6 and up will pick up the signal when UniTrunker input is also set to default.

All versions prior to 1.0.0.6 will allow selection of the desired adapter from the list, even when it is not the default adapter.

I'm guessing this is already an identified issue... but if not, hope this note saves somebody else the trouble to run it down... :)

-rb-
PS: I changed the title to reflect this "fix"

I'm having some difficulty getting Unitrunker to play nice under Windows 7 and I'm not sure what is holding me up. I had this exact same setup working under Vista and again under XP on the same machine, so I'm a bit baffled.

I have a discriminator tap in my Pro-97, connected to the right channel of my integrated SB Live Line-In (SB Live! 24-bit). Receiver is set to type Signal, with the audio port selected as 'SB Live! 24-bit', sample rate 44100, sample size 16, channel right. When I set run to 'Running' I see nothing on the scope, yet when I use another application like Audacity to monitor the Line-In I get the sounds of the control channel I'm trying to monitor on the right channel just like I expected.

I even tried Unitrunker 1.0.0.8, which is the version I had running under Vista and XP, to no avail.

Line-In is set as the default recording device, and I have adjusted the level on the Levels tab for the Line-In Properties.

Has anybody had any luck getting this working with 7 yet?

I "think" I have a problem with my Disc Tap and would appreciate any comments.

I have 2 radios that I use on 2 computers each running Unitrunker v1.0.0.9. One is a Radio Shack Pro-2040 and the other is a Radio Shack Pro-2004. Both are tapped as per the usual available directions, and both work to decode any given mode (but mostly EDACS and Motorola). I am just concerned that although they both work, both could work better!

Assume both radios are tuned to the same frequency at the same time and both are on EDACS (it doesn't make any difference if both are on a Motorola syatem).

Assume the scope window is about 3" x 3" on my screens.

If I look at the scope on the Pro-2040 the pattern is about 1/2" in height.

If I look at the scope on the Pro-2004 the pattern is higher than the window....about 3 1/4" in height. It is flattening at the top and bottom.

My question is this.....is either pattern correct or are both wrong. Is a small pattern ok? I am assuming the large pattern is too large.

Would some form of capacitor or resistor in series with the Disc Tap help? What type and size?

Anyone have any answers or suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Ralph VE3EUK
