After local agencies all switched to DTRS a few months back, I thought I had bought a" pig in a poke when I bought my Pro96. Couldn't get the darned thing to program even though I kept hearing from people on here that we SHOULD be able to hear them with it. Yesterday I started researching on this site and tried a few new things with the program on the Win96(really thought I would have to update it but didn't). Put the Motorola custom table 9600 baud into the programming and then input the local talkgroups into the table with MOT and downloaded them into my scanner. Turned it on and EUREKA! There everything was, fire, law enforcement, AMR and public works. Most of them seem to be sitting on the Pueblo Chem Depot frequency 851.300. I think the law enforcement I'm picking up is either CSP or PCo SD. Pueblo PD must be on something else, haven't heard them yet. Doesn't matter, it's finally working! I really thought I'd bought a useless scanner for 300+ dollars and that I'd have to get a 106 but maybe not. I'm just happy it's not a doorstop and I don't have to buy another one! It's great hearing fire and police and EMS again, I was really getting bored listening to ham channels and buses and cabs! I really didn't have the money to invest in another scanner so I'm glad I'm able to make this one work.

Date: 11/9/09 17:50

Program: North Colorado Med Evac 2

Type: Bell 407
Tail #: N912GX
Operator/Vendor: Med-Trans Corp

Weather: Clear. Not a factor

Team: No injuries reported. Patient on board.

Description:
North Colorado Med Evac 2 was on a patient transport from Yuma, CO, en
route to Denver, CO. At approximately 1750 hours, the aircraft was
westbound at approximately 1200 feet AGL when the medical crew heard
an unusual whining noise emanating from the engine area and
immediately notified the pilot. The pilot, in consultation with the
medical crew, made a decision to make a Precautionary Landing (PL) and
initiated a descent. After initial reduction of the collective, the
engine chip light illuminated and the crew selected an appropriate PL
site in a field adjacent to a road.

The pilot executed a descending 90 degree turn into the wind and set
up for a final approach into the selected landing area. During the
descent, the pilot instructed the medical crewmembers to activate the
ISAT emergency switch on the satellite phone and to contact Dispatch
and advise them of the situation.

While on short final, at approximately 10 feet above the intended
landing point, the crew saw a flash and the engine failed. The engine
failure was accompanied by a yaw and the associated aircraft
warning/segment lights and audio alarms. The pilot executed an
autorotation to the intended landing point with no damage to the
aircraft or injury to the patient or medical crewmembers.

The patient was transported by another helicopter service and the
pilot and medical crewmembers were transported by aircraft back to
their home base. The FAA and NTSB were notified. The Denver Accident
Investigation Supervisor conducted an on-site investigation and
released the undamaged aircraft. The aircraft was subsequently
recovered to an MTC facility and is being evaluated in conjunction
with the OEM regarding the cause of the engine failure.

The immediate and decisive action on the part of the pilot and medical
crewmembers, the application of sound CRM practices/principles, and
application of hands-on emergency procedures training played an
integral role in the safe outcome of this occurrence.

Additional Info:
Additional information will be provided pending the results of an
internal investigation.

This evening on my way home from work, I heard the most terrifying thing I have ever heard on the scanner (in over fifteen years so far). A firefighter crying for help that he was trapped in a burning building and was running out of air. I paused on the Talkgroup, and listened with my full attention, praying that the rescue teams they sent in would find him and save him. After about 15 minutes, they announced they had gotten him out of the building and said "drill complete".

Since I only caught part of the event (the firefighter yelling for help) and it sounded so realistic, I was really shaken up there for a while. It amazes me how real it sounded. All of the other drills I have heard from other departments, seem like they are obviously training excersises. But this sounded so realistic. The Incident Commander was doing his best to calm down the "injured firefighter" who I thought was going to die, since he did not know where he was. He almost sounded like he was crying!

Has anybody ever else come across something like this? I wish there was some more indicators that it is a drill so that people aren't freaking out and texting all their friends to pray for the firefighter and looking like and idiot when its all over.

It does give me more of an appreciation for the firefighters that are all out there putting their lives on the line every day. I have done ride a longs on fire engines, and have seen them in action, but nothing (other than the movie Ladder 49) has gotten to me like this did today.

About a dozen agencies are taking part in an emergency training drill at Colorado Mountain College’s Spring Valley campus on Friday, Nov. 13, from 8:30 to noon.

Because emergency vehicles will be going up and down County Road 114, we’re asking people to avoid being on the road during that time if possible. If they need to be on CR 114 between Highway 82 and CMC, they should watch for emergency vehicles.

This is a drill, a learning exercise for all of us. If a true emergency were to happen, we would stop the drill immediately.

The scenario is allowing all the participating agencies to test our emergency preparedness plans and learn how we can best work together in the event of an actual emergency.

Thank you for your patience as we practice our safety drill.

Initial comm plan looks like MAC-17, 20 and Garco MAC-1

I was going through my programming for an upcoming trip and I noticed that a lot of the site locations listed in the database seem to have changed dramatically.

It seems that some of the current site locations listed also don't make sense (no towers) and/or are not even close to the location listed on the license.

Can anybody verify this?

Thank you

Edited to add: I will submit what I think are correct coordinates, licenses etc. I just want to check with people in the area first.
