I think my 996XT took a crap. It will not decode any audio from the Douglas county simulcast. The DATA will flash on the screen and the signal meter will go from full scale to nothing, both happen within a second. It is not a 800Mhz, trunking or digital issue. The scanner works fine on Sarpy's system decodes Cass's P25 and OPPD's control channels are strong with no drop out. I did drive to Washington county tonight to see if the problem only happens on Douglas county's sites. Unfortunately that same happens with Washington county. The scanner worked fine until Wednesday. The scanner did work fine after the firmware update to display the RID.
It's not a programming issue. I use the same file with my 396XT and that works fine.
So does anyone have any ideas?

Howdy, everyone! Tonight, I have a question of opinion for all of you Uniden 396XT / 996XT owners out there!

I've had my 396XT for quite some time now and have been trying to figure out the best way to program the multi-site OPPD system. The goal is to have the OPPD system programmed in such a way that the scanner always stays fixed on the strongest site no matter where one roams!

With my old 396T, I created a system named OPPD and programmed the CCs in the order I preferred. This worked quite well and the scanner always stayed locked on the strongest CC.

Now, on the 396XT, the whole concept of "Sites" comes into play and the idea is to program a system and then create a site object for each site in the system. In this method, one can program a system called OPPD and then program each site along with the corresponding CCs.

The problem is that once you hit the SCAN button, the scanner religiously scans through the collection of sites, looking for traffic, no matter which one is strongest. This, as you might guess, causes many missed conversations while the scanner is potentially off scanning other sites it can't hear.

Needless to say, I've temporarily scrapped the Multi-site configuration in favor of the 396XT equivalent to my old 396T's single-site OPPD system.

Am I missing some great detail here? What is everyone else doing?

Have a GREAT evening and 73s

i recently aquired a new uniden bcd396xt scanner. of course could not listen to anything here in omaha. after searching all over the internet I ran across scanner master and radio reference sites. led me to downloading ARC XT software and reviewed a webinare on scanner master"s website which sort of showed how to use the software. i was able to delete sites on the scanner which i would never listen to and then i tried loading some omaha stuff.......police, fire, etc..... dont think i did it right though. i can listen to omaha NE, SE, SW NW police.....seems like dispatch. nothing else ever gets found. no FIre, EMS etc....... so for the most part i am lost and wondering how i can get help with this thing. i know scanner master can program it for me but they dont program some of the other sites that i might want to listen to on occasion. the owners manual is not much help to me.......so much of it doesnt make sense.
Hoping there is someone out there who might be willing to help............Thanks in ADVANCE !

Good evening everyone!

After doing some traveling last weekend and this weekend, I'll be submitting updated Primary and Alternate Control Channel information for the 14 Sites in our part of the NLMRS (aka "ORION") system. With the rebanding occurring, there have been other subtle changes that need to be reflected in the DB.

AND, one thing I figured out most recently is that the tower IDs for Telbasta and Cedar Bluffs are reversed in the database. 860.48750 (110) is _definitely_ not at Telbasta, while 859.41250 (112) _definitely_ is. The reverse obeservations apply to Cedar Bluffs.

KG4WHM - when I was asking you to confirm that you were hearing 110 on 860.4870, I couldn't figure out how you were actually hearing Telbasta from Gretna, considering the distance and intervening terrain involved. Turns out that you were hearing Cedar Bluffs, which is closer and on higher terrain.

I still don't know what OPPD is doing by running two sites on the same RF channel so close to each other.

73s all!
