I hate to open this general topic...but I haven't seen this specific question addressed.

Are there sentencing guidelines for violation of V&T section 397 ("mobile scanners")?

I know the law calls for a penality of up to 6 months in jail...has that ever really happened? My limited understanding is that most laws contain the maximum sentence and first offenders usually see much less.

Has anyone ever been arrested and taken "downtown" and booked or had to post bail...or is a ticket the normal course?

I'm not asking because of any specific incident...just curious.

Also when Creating Systems & Groups does each Fire Dept get it�s own System or it�s own group on one system?

The data base shows 425.375 as a special Buffalo freq.I recently heard the Hamburg SWAT team use this.Some nut in his house with a gun holding off hamburg PD.Could this be some kind of county/statewide ferq? can anyone verify this.

I'm currently listening to Talk Group 00-002, which I assume are the radio techs...they sound like they are trying to tweak the system.

I've submitting the reband info into the database, hopefully they don't roll back on Monday ;)

Hi I live in Colonie,I just pruchased a bcd996xt scanner .I put Troy in it but I cant recieve anything. I put in in correct as EADCS NARROW/WIDE with the freqeuncies in the correct order but nothing. am i too far away? Im only in colonie.Am I skipping something? Please help.

The Putnam County Sheriff feed has finally returned...new equipment (except for the scanner) and a damned good broadband connection (Thank you, Comcast for resolving).'

Rumor has it this will be a repeated fireground channel.

Dave,

On your latest updates to nf2g.com (Albany County) I noticed the following comment at the bottom of the law enforcement section:

"NOTE: Police are authorized by FCC Regulations to use unlicensed channels, provided
they do not interfere with licensed users."

What FCC Rule allows this? While the FCC is unlikely to fine a police department for unlicensed use...I've never heard of an actual rule authorizing this.

I made this an open question (versus a PM) because I figured it might be a good discussion topic as well.

Assistance programming trunked systems, Hudson River valley?

Greetings. Ham (AF6ME) who just moved to Ulster County here, and I am facing trunked systems for the first time now. Hand-entering all the data from the tri-county NYCOMCO EDACS system is a hugely daunting proposition, even using bctool to move it to the scanner and a computer to enter the data with a real keyboard and cut-and-paste. I was hoping someone could help me with getting the RadioReference data into my BCT15 via shareware or freeware software (I prefer bctool, but it has not been updated in so long that it appears that RadioReference data loading no longer works at the new improved RR.com site.

In particular, I'm wanting the three NYCOMCO EDACS systems programmed for the local counties (Ulster and Dutchess, Orange too for the tri-county system I suppose) as well as fire/law analog trunked systems for the Albany area in particular. Once the data is in a file for software that can upload to my scanner I'm good. I can handle the conventional frequencies myself, but being disabled and tiring easily, I am daunted by the amount of data I have to enter, especially for the tri-county NYCOMCO system. I already tried manually entering a whole slug of data from that system into bctool, which apparently has a problem with Vista and wrecked several hours of data entry such that the scanner locked up whenever I tried to load the file on another machine with bctool.

Any assistance much appreciated!

USS New york festivities

Anyone have anything to report in terms of Naval frequencies for the new ship that is in port through Veteran's Day? I was thinking of going to see it today. I know in the past, during fleet week some listeners found trunked systems on board many of the Naval vessels. Just curious if anyone had found the same for USS New York, or what they were using while they are here in NY? During Fleet Week I also remember a temporary repeater in the 140.XXXX area used for Security. I'll be looking for that too I guess if I make it to Pier 88.

Anyone have anything to add?

Also after tips on any good scanner/antenna or electrical supply stores as last time i was in the states i noticed you guys get some useful bits and bobs that are harder to come by here.

10-Codes ??

I am listening to a local mental institution on my scanner. I hear them calling 10-codes. Their codes do not match with the police obviously. I googled for about an hour and I still can not come up with anything. Does anyone know if their 10-codes are field specific or location specific and what do their 10-codes mean?

I am just posting to confirm that 453.175 is the frequency that Mercy Flight of WNY is using for there communications I was also wondering if anyone knew what it was like when they dispatch a team to a call do they use the radio? Does anyone have a recording of one of there calls i could have? Or any information about how there radio communication operates?

BOLO Broadcast on NYSP Troop F

Just heard a broadcast regarding a lookout for a suspect originating from Newburgh Police. I am located in New York City and Newburgh is about 80 miles away from my home and I don't think the signal is able to go that far. I hear Middletown station on Troop F most often but that's about it.

My question is, for those who monitors Troop F often, do they really transmit from Newburgh? Or do they have a transmitter closer?

New Westchester County Fireground frequencies?

While checking out the FCC's website I came across a pending application that Westchester County has to add two more frequencies to license WPMJ238. This is the license for the current eight County Fireground frequencies. The pending application can be viewed at ULS Application - Public Safety Pool, Conventional - 0004010222 - WESTCHESTER, COUNTY OF. The new pending frequencies are 458.1125 & 465.5125MHz.

What these freq's will be used for are unknown at this time. All I can say is that these two freq's are proposed to be added to the license with the current eight FG freq's, so it would surmise to say that these may also be FG freq's.

East Fishkill PD Using Multi-freqs

It's Halloween, as usual EFPD uses their latest and greatest to make it more difficult to listen to them. A few year ago it was the MDT, before that their new trunk system and even before that analog voice inversion. Tonight, while trying to listen to them, I find the dispatch group is on the normal ID, but I hear no mobile transmissions. I checked the other frequencies in their system and found no transmissions either. I have started a search on the Depot Hill site, since the commercial provider who does their repair work has allowed them on occasion to use their system there. There are over 30 frequencies listed for that radio site,but then again they actually may be using their old VHF channel. It's going to take some time. I am not easily dissuaded. I will find them. Any help from others in the area would be appreciated.

Is there a way to use pl tones for trunked system cause they are both using the same freq and i get doitt talkgroups on my east hampton bank. I had the same problem with adding the NJ state police system also.

Sorry for the dumb question its just really annoying hearing the DOITT stuff on another bank i have programmed for East Hampton or NJ State PD. Im Using a rs pro-160

I'm looking to get, not publically posted on here but via PM, the tones that go off in-house in the city (the "classic" Engine, Truck, Battalion sound)...

Before everyone goes jumping the gun with the whole "if they wanted you to know, they'd post it", "what are you going to use it for" etc etc etc... #1 I'm strictly curious, #2 I *may* use it for an in-house system by me.

i hear the fd tones come threw and all the calls going out but the streets and jobs are all in nassau county i believe its deer park vfd using that channel now

is there other freq. west ham and broad channel using?
