I was there a couple of months ago, could not find anyone on simplex channels such as 146.52, nor could I hit any of the listed repeaters. We are going to be back fairly often, so I was wondering what the HAM repeaters are that are online, what part of the county are they in - I was in downtown galliapolis, and is there an active HAM club? I saw a listing for ones webpage but the page is gone.

Sent emails to a couple of people in the area, but no replies. My only contact there that would know has unfortunately passed away, he would have known everything about it. RIP Steve.

First off I listen to the MARCS system while mobile so this may be part of the problem. I am using an external antenna with the Uniden BCD396XT. I also downloaded everything right from RR database. I have not played around trying to tweak the system at all as I don't want to really screw it up so bad that I can't hear it as I am driving.
So can anyone give me some advice about tweaking the system settings? I seem to be missing a second or two from the transmission about 1/3rd of the time. Could this be as simple as setting the modulation to NFM or FM instead of AUTO? I also get bits and pieces of conversations instead of the whole conversation. Sometimes just garble and cracks and control channel noise.
Hope I have given enough info for my question.

According to The Courier this morning the Findlay Police Department is going to Marcs starting next week. I was wondering if anyone knows what the frequiences are for that? Here is the article.

Police ready to join new radio system

Installation of a new digital radio system, which will link Findlay's safety services and public works departments to county agencies and 30,000 users statewide, is set to begin next week.

Lines for the state's Multi-Agency Radio Communications System (MARCS) are currently being tested.

The next step will be to update the dispatch center and then install radios in the city's vehicle fleet, said Findlay Police Sgt. Randy Digby.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office is already using the system. Digby said he is optimistic the city radios will be up and running by the end of November, and if not, by year's end.

Findlay will be one of the first cities to have both its safety services and public works departments linked on the MARCS radio system, he said.

"We knew from past practice, most notably the 2007 flood, that public works and public safety kind of went hand-in-hand in a large-scale disaster," Digby said.

In all, roughly 300 city units will be connected to the network, which will also be linked with roughly 360 county radios.

Findlay Service Director Bruce Hardy agreed the flood pointed out the weakness of the city's current radio communication.

"There were some communication problems with the city being able to talk to the county effectively," he said.

"If you don't have good communication links between services, it makes coordination much more difficult," Hardy said.

The city had budgeted $1,275,000 in its 2009 capital improvement plans for the radios, but much of the cost is being offset by grants and other money.

At City Council's Nov. 3 meeting, Digby said he anticipates being able to report some good news for the city's pocketbook when he asks council to approve a contract with Sprint.

In addition to receiving roughly $600,000 in grants, a $287,000 cash settlement and $240,000 worth of equipment was given to the city by Sprint, according to Digby.

Sprint is paying emergency agencies to switch to different radio frequencies in attempt to better separate emergency and cell phone frequencies, Digby said.

Initially, one of the downfalls of the new radio system was a $20 per month subscription fee, which would be assessed to each of the city's approximately 300 radios. This would have cost the city about $80,000 a year, Digby said.

But in joining up with the statewide network, the city was able to exchange some of its frequencies for service credit to cover five years of subscription fees, Digby said.

With the new system, city and county workers can also be in contact with agencies from other cities.

This would come in handy in a situation similar to the 2007 flood in which help came from outside the county, Digby said.

It will also allow conversations to be transmitted across long distances.

"If the fire chief is in a meeting in Cincinnati and the police chief is in a meeting in Cleveland during the next disaster, they can communicate to the units back here just like if they were downtown," Digby said.

The upgrade was also essential to updating the city's radios, half of which were on their last leg, Digby said.

"Every radio we had in the city is no longer being made and about half of them were no longer being fixed," he said. "Literally, we were in a situation if our system broke, we were off the air and we couldn't be fixed.

I'm a bit of a newbie, I'm not a huge scanner/radio user... sorry in advance if my questions are a little stupid, lol.

I have a little 50 channel Uniden Bearcat (BC80XLT) mobile I use while storm watching, and when I can't be on my computer, I need to reprogram it since a lot of the frequencies have changed with Findlay going to MARCS. I have looked through some of the threads on here, and have referenced some of the scanner sites I have bookmarked, but can't seem to find an updated list of the Frequencies in my area. I live in the middle of Findlay, near the University, so I can pick up quite a bit of traffic whenever I turn it on, I'm just not sure if what I have programed is accurate anymore, and I need the new Findlay Police/Fire dispatch info since they aren't trunked anymore.

Here's a list of my current programming... let me know if these are still correct, and any changes or any I should add (I'm gonna add the Findlay SKYWARN 147.1500 once I redo everything, since I am a SKYWARN Spotter).
