Since I'm a old time scanner person I'm going to call it a bank instead of whatever the new deal is called. I can be scanning "bank" 1,5,6 and 20 and after awhile I'll notice nobody is talking and I know from over 30 years of listening that they are talking.
I can react over and push a "bank" number say 5 to turn off that bank then turn it right back on and it will start talking again for awhile.

Anybody had that problem? Ideas?

Thanks

Now after programming it ive found something very peculiar, with the demo version of arc300 i try to send the freqs to the 163/164 option but the scanner says incorrect model ended up it will send to it if its pro97/pro2055. it goes thru but now it sits on a bank and dont move after a wile. i got the freqs separated by police, fire, sheriff and ems. bank 3 was police and wood sit on there. i'd keep lockin out the channels it sat on but never helped i almost locked out the whole bank. i had bank 0 open so i put the PD freqs in there but it still does the same thing and i cant figger out why, any possible explanations?:confused::confused:

I'm in Pittsburgh, PA where we primarily have old-school conventional systems. I'm primarily concerned with programming basic non-trunked channels. Soooooo.... since I've never used a computer to program a scanner, I thought I would ask the Shack experts! Can II just use a free program or do I need something like ARC. Again the programming is very basic. I'd just like to try the computer thing. Really interested in programming the Pro-164, but I'll take any help on both!

Thank you in advance for any help you will be able to provide!

After programming this scanner and installing it in my car it suddenly got stuck in wired mode and wouldn't go out of it even after a reset; so I took it out and opened her up and disconnected the wires leading to the PC/IF jack. This seemed to solve the problem at first so I hooked it back up and reprogrammed it and I thought I had it working again...

Nope; now when I turn it on and start scanning I get about maybe 2-3 minutes and then it goes back into wired mode and automatically resets itself after around 30 seconds; after which it scans for a brief second then goes back into the same cycle.

Has anyone else had this problem or know of any solution? Does anyone have the service manual .pdf so that I might trace it to the board? Maybe a bad component?

Thanks in advance!

Went to my local Radioshack to look at a new desktop scanner. The salesperson there said that our local system just switched to Triple Trunking and I'd have to buy a new triple trunking scanner now.

The only thing that happend is our local EDACS system moved 2 frequencies for rebanding which I reprogrammed in my Dual Trunking scanner which works just fine.

I take it that this is just their marketing technique? Or am I missing something with Triple Trunking? From what I figured out, Dual Trunking was Motorola/EDACS and Triple Trunking was Motorola/EDACS and LTR, which wouldn't make a difference around here.

My question is, do the Pro 106 and PSR 500 have any better features that I would actually find useful, or do they perform any better than the Pro 96 to justify spending an additional $200? Or should I just go with the trusty Pro-96?

Thanks

Greetings :
Get loud, clear audio through the PRO-106 Headphone jack and Speakers !

The Radio Shack Pro-106 (GRE PSR500) headphone jack only allows approximately 30% of the receivers audio through it to protect your hearing when using an earpiece. This however, makes it nearly impossible to use an eternal speaker with the unit, as the audio signal is greatly reduced through the headphone jack and will sound distorted when the volume is turned up.To obtain crisp, clean, loud audio using an extension speaker, follow these simple directions: (now your audio will increase by 70 per cent !)

first go to :mods.dk - Modifications for radioamateur

Don't want to undo the radio and do a quick fix !

This mod is done with a small piece of hobby wire.

To clear the problem, I have to punch 'scan'....and then it works again for a bit..till the next time.

Additional info... It seems to stick on 858.2375...every time.

Michigan State University Trunking System, E Lansing, Michigan - Scanner Frequencies

I can pick up some conversations transmitted in analog, but if it's digital all I hear is buzzing. The buzzing is intermittent which leads me to believe it is digital voice and not other digital data. Should the PRO-106 be able to pick up digital broadcasts on this type of system? If so, can I tell if the lack of reception is due to encryption or a misconfiguration?

Not sure if this has been posted yet, so I will give it a stab. I wondered into a Radio Shack here tonight and found what appeared to be a re-badged GRE PSR-200. Upon further inspection, it was almost exact except the RS model had FM Radio built in. The price point is $99.99 and is catalog #20-405. Very neat, I guess it replaced the PRO 136.

On another note, the helpful clerk said Friends and Family will be out to employees the end of November, or early December. He did not know if it was going to be e-mailed out to customers, but he said his particular store's policy is to give the discount to "nice customers."

Also, he said you can give a valid e-mail address to a Radio Shack store for $10 off (or 10% off), sorry can't remember what the discount amount was, and it didn't help since I only remember the price of this new scanner being $89.99 after I gave him my e-mail. I am already on The Shack's list, and did not have the money to purchase anything tonight.

Edit: After coming back to the website, I checked the Wiki. There was the PRO-405 on there, with all the specs. Now, I check this site daily, and the forums multiple times. How did I miss the news of this new Radio Shack scanner?
