Just out of curiosity does anyone know the expectant life of the display panel lights for a scanner like the Uniden BC796D?
Are they readily replaceable?

Hi. If anyone is looking to get a cupholder mount for their 346XT, I found Belkin's TuneDok Cupholder for iPod works greats for this. You just need to remove the suction cup piece and the belt clip ring on the radio fits right into the cutout on the top of the cradle. It holds it nice and firmly into place. There some space left on the bottom of the cradle, but you don't need to fill the whole thing. The width is perfect and there is no issue connecting the power and accent the function/menu buttons on the side. Best of all I found it for just $3 on Amozon: Amazon.com: Belkin TuneDok Cupholder for iPod (White): Electronics

Since the P25 protocol is new in our area, I am now listening to it on my BCD-396XT for the first time. One thing I've noticed; When the P25 agency is transmitting, the 396XT seems to "check" the control channel during the transmission which causes a "break" in the transmission. I can see the P25 on the LCD display go on and off as the control channel is checked. Is there a way to stop this? One would think if the scanner is receiving traffic on the P25 channel, there wouldn't be a need to check the control channel until the P25 transmission stops.

And no, I do not have priority, Close Call, WX alert or any other function enabled that would cause the "break".

Also, why does it sound as if the audio is phase shifting on the P25 channels? Meaning the pitch goes up and down.

Thank you.

Are there any mods or possibly any firmware updates that will enhance audio output?

I sent back the remote head and the classic 396 for service...hopefully it will be back before too long....

It scans all of the frequencies entered on that bank. I have the manual and have tried it every way that it can be interpreted. Can somebody tell me where I am going wrong?

After that I reset the head without success...i'm getting ready to box it up and ship back to uniden for repair... I also checked the port and the CChannel as listed in the update. Any other ideas? UPman? Please help...

Also my bcd396t speaker just quit, but if i rig it just right some sound comes out an external speaker....this will be the 4th time back at Uniden's repair shop for that model...

I have been scanning with my Uniden Bearcat BCD996XT under Butel ARC XT PRO Software. Today I searched 162-174 mHz with digital only selected and NAC search on. Most of the logged hits make sense, but several have me puzzled. Two of them showed a NAC code "NONE" and two other ones showed "0" in the NAC column. As I understand it, if I am hearing valid APCO P-25 modulation it should log a legitimate NAC code, but the two displaying NONE and the two displaying 0 have me puzzled. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Also, on a somewhat related note, how does the BCD996XT behave if I select analog modulation only and a P25 signal is received? Does it simply mute the audio or does it scan past it?

Hi all,

I'm not near any trunk systems right now, so I can't test this out - hence I'm asking you if it'll work.

On the XT scanners, with the CC Logging option enabled scanner-wide, will any frequency that receives a valid control channel (that the scanner can detect) start passing data thru to the computer, or does it have to be inside a properly set-up trunk system in the scanner?

Reason I ask is I had two ideas I was curious about: One, if I could load all my preferred control channels into a conventional system for ease of use, so I don't have to do anything but turn on (for example) quick key 99 and have my trunk CCs available for Unitrunker. Two, if I am in frequency search mode and come across a CC, if it would pass the data to the computer (and UT) without me having to create a trunk system of the right type, adding the freq manually, and etc.

Thanks in advance!

             510.5 hZ 832.5 hZ

If I set my device to:

Tone A Tone B

0 832.5 hZ

will it open up for all agencies that have the B Tone of 832.5 hZ?

I know that timing used to be a concern, but I understand that firmware updates have made this a non-issue. I probably will try this at some point, but I suspect that somebody here already knows the answer.

Hello,

First off, mea culpa — I'm a scanner newbie, and will likely stay that way. I have simple needs, to be honest. And one of those simple needs is to easily, without having to hookup my scanner to a computer, to be able to lockout every System I have programmed, except for one that I want to listen to. I know I can do it with lots of twisting-and-pushing, but I'm curious —*is there a shortcut method for the BC396XT that will allow me to do something like this? Like —*if I am presently listening to a System, some jigging and poking to convey to the device that I want to stay scanning in this System and not any others —*not this *Public Service* generic scan, or any other System I may have programmed.

I could go through the super baroque manual, but I'm hoping someone can just help a fella out.

As in the title it is a Bearcat Twin Turbo BC-120XL and it works fine with a charged battery but will not power on with an AC adapter. I am using an AD-70U power adapter. Is there something wrong that would make it work with the batteries but not the AC power plug. I checked the prongs and they are intact. I also used a meter and it is getting power though the plug socket. The adapter charges batteries fine. Any ideas what to look for?

Thanks!

The Harris County Regional Radio System ( Harris County Regional Radio System (Motorola) Trunking System, Metro Houston area, Texas - Scanner Frequencies ) is a Motorola Type II SmartZone system with multiple sites and control channels.

I programmed all of the control channels in one system on the 396T. I thought the radio would go from control channel to control channel as it scanned. Instead the radio will find a control channel, use it to check for activity in the programmed talkgroups, then resume scanning and skip the other control channels. For example, the radio may find a weak control channel, use it then skip the strong control channel from a tower nearer to my location.

I had hoped to avoid programming each tower as a separate system because of the large number of talkgroups.

A method that seems to work is to lock out all CCs other than the strongest one. That is ok when stationary but not so good when traveling around the area covered by the system.

My new BCD396XT and BuTel ARC-XT-Pro software arrived Friday. I immediately printed the comprehensive operating manuals for both (76 pages for the software, 273 pages for the scanner) and placed them in binders. They certainly were intimidating! Having used both Butel and RR before, I decided to give it a go without cracking the manuals. In less than an hour I installed the software, downloaded 10 trunked systems and 8 conventional systems from RR, installed everything onto the scanner, and had it all up and running in Virtual Control mode. I still have a lot to learn, but that will come in time. Many thanks to BuTel and RR for simplifying what would have otherwise been a monumental task.

Question about BCD996xt and LTR LCN mapping

Ok so I have read everything I could find on mapping out the correct LCN for LTR systems and I still think I am missing something. Do I even need to worry about it on the 996xt? Do I need the correct LCN? Do I need only the home channels?

Ok so I have read everything I could find on mapping out the correct LCN for LTR systems and I still think I am missing something. Do I even need to worry about it on the 996xt? Do I need the correct LCN? Do I need only the home channels?

Here is what I have done

Setup a new system as LTR LCN Search
Setup 20 Site frequencies as LCN X (where x is 1-20)
added the fixed base frequencies I found in the FCC database for a callsign which was listed as trunking and I know is LTR standard. Lets say the frequencies are 461.1 461.2 461.3 461.4 461.5

So LCN 1 has all 5 channle frequencies 461.1 461.2 ... set as LCN 1 I could do this through software not directly on the scanner.

I know or am pretty confident that 461.1 is LCN 1 and I get talkgroups A-HH-GGG as 01-01-XXX

LCN 2 has all five as LCN 2 etc down to 20

I was under the impression that if frequency 461.3 is say LCN 9 that if there was transmission the scanner would stop on site frequency LCN 9 and display the channel frequency 461.3?

What has happened is that I get transmission on LCN 1 as 461.1 and talkgroup 01-01-002 which makes sense if it is LCN 1. The only other transmissions I have recieved so far are on LCN 4 and LCN 7 and they stp and show frequency 461.1? and the talkgroups match the lcn ie on LCN 4 channel 461.1 I get talkgorup 01-04-002 and LCN 7 channel 461.1 I get talkgroup 01-07-002.

The transmissions on those sound the same as 0-01-002 as far as I can tell they seem like the same group talking.

I have read that this could be the busy/goto? But would it then not be on a different channel frequency as 461.1 could not be multiple LCN's?

Am I misunderstanding mapping an LTR system I did read all the threads and wiki?

I have numerous conventional frequencies stored that I have not heard anything on yet. When I search using either scanner, if the search settings are set to use CTCSS/DCS Search, will I not pick up on any digital comms? Also, vice/versa, if it is set for NAC Search, will I not get any analog hits? Along the same idea, if I have a conventional frequency set for CTCSS/DCS Search, will I get any comms at all if it is actually digital? Again, vice/versa, if I had a freq set for NAC Search, will it not stop if there is analog comms?
Will I have to duplicate all the unknowns and set one for CTCSS/DCS and the other for NAC Search?
Thanks ahead for your input.
