I finally started my shack on my garage, I have a 3 car garage and I will be using the second and third garage to do my home business "laser engraving/cutting" , my comunications corner with all types of radios from CB, Marine, HAM bands, GMRS, Public Safety etc etc, I will also have FINALLY my testing / soldering area.

I will start installing my antennas on the atic about 15' from the ground, until I figure out how to install them on the tall pine trees on the back of my house, but I have to camoflauge the antennas to be able to mount them there, the HOA is very picky about antennas here :(

I sold most of my mobiles this past months, but I will be buying different ones to fit my needs on the shack, I have 3 computers that I will be setting up for my discriminator modded scanners, TV, etc etc.

More pictures to come (sorry for the mess)

Mobile Install pictures by jamesfabiano - Photobucket
Hey all..
Finally got my pro 197 in my car. I was originally going to get a transmission hump mount, but figured this worked better, and saved me $90!

I took the console apart and drilled three holes for the scanner into the outside of the inside part of the console. I wanted to keep all the screws and wires hidden as much as possible, so this was a way to do that. I then drilled a hole in the inside-bottom of the console to thread all the wiring through. After that I moved the coax under the passenger seat and through the hole in the console. I ran the power cable from where the cup holders would normally go, down to the driver side floorboard, under the driver's seat, through the hole in the console, and into the scanner. Then I drilled the holes and installed the Moto speaker. Thanks to NeFire242 for that speaker.

I would have liked to have drilled the holes lower so the scanner didn't stick out as much, and also hide the wires coming from the 12v plug, but other than that I'm really happy with how this install went :)

Any feedback/suggestions welcome! Thanks for looking!

See all pics here:

Made some changes over the summer and thought I'd post some updated pictures.

Running a Yaesu FT-8900 now. My club recently put a 6m repeater on the air and I wanted to be able to play a bit. Since console space is tight and my Kenwood 90 Series head can only control two and not three drawers, I lamented and swapped in the 8900.

The control head is in the same place as before, just not as big. I was able to tuck a small speaker in behind. The audio seems fine to me.

The drawer is in the trunk. Power comes from the same place as before. Gotta love having the battery back there!

Antennas consist of a Larsen NMO50 for 6m and NMO430CS for 70cm. Since the 8900 has only one antenna jack a diplexer sends UHF to the shorter antenna and low-band to the longer one behind it. The mount in the middle is unused at the moment (hence the rain cap) but I might put a GPS antenna on it.

I do have a Larsen NMO270SH I may swap with the UHF one so I can have 2m again. I did play around with a NMO150 for 6m and 2m but the whip was too long and I found it kept hitting everything.

And here's the whole package. Astute readers will notice the wheels are different. The car is sporting Bridgestone Blizzaks on aftermarket rims now. Winter is just around the corner!

When funds became tight, I was looking for a simple (inexpensive) way to get the scanners off my desk. Cleaning out the garage over the weekend yielded several cigar boxes, which seem to be made for this. This was a box of "Cuban Rejects", and it's sturdy and very well put together. Cut out part of the bottom for the scanner to pass through, a little Dremel work for the mounting screws and - done!
(You could find these in almost any cigar store, usually they will give the boxes, or charge a dollar or two)

Not going to make anyone envious, but an idea for those that are a little handy with a screwdriver and a razor blade. One thing to remember, cedar dust can be toxic so wear a mask if you do this.

For now, the Pro-160 sits inside the box, and the Pro-95 does the Unitrunker duties.

The YB-400 is an old favorite, but not getting much use now that baseball season is over for us out West.

Next box will be for the BCT's and I might put the Pro-162 on the right side of this one.
