Space Shuttle Atlantis is set to take off today at 2:28pm EST. There will be three EVAs on this mission so plenty of opportunities to catch them on VHF. Please post any comms recieved during this mission.

Having never observed the ISS I checked Heavens-Above Home Page for times of local passes. There was a magnitude -3.5 pass for last Friday night. The ISS was bright and easily observed but the cloud cover made it impossible to get a good photo ( Photo I took of that pass -- Picasa Web Albums - Okie Sam - 2009-11-07 ISS ).

I programmed 145.800 into a BCD396T connected to a laptop running ARC auto-logging and recording software. The scanner captured audio a few hours later of ISS over Houston.

Here is a link to the audio files: ISS (OkieSam)

I know I'm a space geek, so no offense can be given back, but for those interested I've taken the NASA live audio stream between Mission Control and the International Space Station, and record it 24/7. It's all available at Index of / in hourly files, timestamped using Eastern Time.

The record software uses voice activation, so it eliminates all the dead air normally around. Each file is updated about 2 minutes after the hour. (You'll often see a small placeholder file for the current hour -- ignore that as it will have the full file in 60 minutes.)

If interested in correlating the times to what's going on, a daily schedule is available at NASA - International Space Station Timelines (November 2009)
