I was wondering if someone could provide me a listing for the "Alpha" channels in a fbi radio. Reason being I heard someone say, "switch to Alpha 7".

And if you have it, maybe someone might be able to help me with the B, C and D channel's.

Thanx.

I think we'd all like a complete listing of such agencies radios.

My guess is the A, B, C, D in cases like these are referring to which zone the radio is put in and the number indicates which channel position. So A7 would be zone A channel 7. If the agent wanted to, if he left the channel selector alone and changed to zone B, he'd be on B7. One federal agency I listen to has the same exact same frequencies programmed for two zones, but one are the channels in analog and the other zone is the channels in P25. They can quickly switch between modes on the same frequency by simply changing zones.

The A and B zones are going to be repeaters for the regional area; what's A5 for me locally will be different than A5 for your area. C will typically have some regional for the more secretive divisions and nationwide, and D is usually more nationwide.

remod,

It sounds to me like the conversation you picked up was an instruction to switch to another repeater. In the channel plans I've seen, the odd numbers following the letters (ID'ing banks A thru G) are repeated channels while the even numbers are the simplex (on the output) of the repeated channel immediately preceeding. Thus, for example, B1 would be 172.525R (167.9) and B2 would be 172.525S (167.9).

The conversation I picked up was one person asking another to switch to Alpha 7. I did a search right after but did not hear anything. Made me think maybe I was not close enough.

I know there is some major upgrades going on within that agencies system. I have heard one channel with direct comm's being used as both analog and digital. One side of town had comm's in digital while another side of town had comm's in analog.

Looking over some info I have had on hand made me think what might they be using for Alpha 7. Nothing so far has popped up.

I appreciate the help and will give some of the suggestions made here a try and keep on searching.

Thank you for the help.
