Thumbs up Imigration/INS freqs.

Have a question.I came across a couple of freqs for Imagration/IMS the freqs are 163.625 and 163.6625 and they are both listed as a Repeater for use Nationwide. Can anyone advise if they have heard any radio traffic on them.I know INS has been merged into Homeland Security and was just woundering if these were used anymore.Any help would be appreceited.Thank You.

INS does not exist as such any more. Since the Department of Homeland Security was formed, most of what was the INS is now Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

ICE has not yet formed a national radio system as such, and for a while was utilizing both the old INS allocations and using the Customs nationwide radio system. The frequencies you listed are part of that shared pool of frequencies that used to be used by both the INS and Border Patrol. I don't know them to be used nationwide, but they are used in some areas. I would check out these frequencies and see what comes up:

162.825
162.850
162.875
162.900

NAC C02

Above received on my PSR-500 about six months ago close to ORD. General security type traffic in the clear.

NAC CO2 ?

I know...C02 and not CO2, but still, you have to wonder if someone has a sense of humor about global warming or it was just coincidence.

Try 163.625 and 163.675. Both are 100% P-25 digital voice.

CPB/ICE units have been also using the JIWIN system here in Western Washington state besides
the 163.625 /163.675 frequencies.
for those of you that dont know what the JIWIN system is, it is a P25 vhf trunked system used by various federal users.....CPB/ICE included
majority of traffic is encrypted and NOT decodable.
once in awhile you might hear some clear P25 comms on these frequencies

Site 101 167.2375, 167.4625, 167.7625
Site 102 167.3125, 168.8375, 172.8000

Scanner Frequencies: U.S. Dept. of Justice: Integrated Wireless Network (IWN) Trunking System, Various, Multi-State
