yes. their command post is almost always in the clear. unit to unit traffic is encrypted.

I heard the parade detail in northern Ill. in 1983 when Reagan was president. I heard the entire detail, and only a few channels used dvp at that time. I was actually detained for a short time, when I was at the local library across the street from a command post watching with binocs and a scanner in my pocket ( dumb, I know!) when one of the local cops I knew, and a SS agent came to ask me questions like did I intend to harm the pres?
I laughed since I thought that was a funny, but they didn't!
They took my notes and dumped the memories in my scanner, so I learned a lesson in humility.

Visit by bush junior before he was Pres to Prescott Arizona and most ss coms were in clear analog with some very limited des at times. The agents all went across to the local western shop near our courthouse and bought cowboy hats, they looked ridiculous with fancy cloths and polished shoes western cowboy hats and surveillance earpieces hanging off their heads and then all the scanner geeks running around in a crowd of 5000 rebroadcasting everything. Of course after Sept 2001 that changed but still at times I have heard unsecure traffic but nothing like that day.

We used to be able to monitor non-secure communications on 366.00 Mhz and other associated frequencies. 366 was a solid carrier, so when both Bush Presidents were in office, we could always tell when Air Force One was in the air, transiting from DC to Maine overhead. Stronger the carrier - closer Air Force One. DC was known as "Crown".

Yep, that and the "echo/foxtrot" pair on uhf was a great source of listening too!

They were active and sometimes in the clear at Super Bowl XLVII just a matter of days ago...

Regularly...until wheels down for an official visit anyway.
Even then...sometimes.
If they do not want to be heard...they are not.

To the other posters,
Loved the E/F UHF days and for that matter the PP's on the old HF network. Wish I had recorded some of that just for old times sake form the 80/90's

Some interesting stuff.

Dave

Likewise Dave.

I am in CT and had a friend in VT and we were like a couple of kids calling each other over a dead carrier. "Hear that?" "Yep - got it!" Both Bush Presidents went to Maine often, right overhead.

Needless to say, more stuff was in the clear then, but we could hear non-secure "phone calls". Presidential Family and guests making plans for the next few days, chit-chatting, etc. I had all of them programmed at the time in case they "lit up". Was 397 one of them?

USSS frequencies active during MO funeral visit in CG yesterday. BO should be in CG this week, I'll be monitoring.

Audiodave1 - Much more activity on E/F than Y/Z.

What do you think of "the-best-of-the 70s, 80s, 90s, and early 2000s" hundreds of hours of "in-the-clear" HF/VHF/UHF fed recordings would be worth on the media of your choice? You'll never hear or understand stuff like this again! FBI, ATF, DEA, IRS, INS, USSS, WHCA- EF & YZ, State Dept., and more!!!!

Maybe ebay:>}

Default long time

when the pro2004 came out i lived in north new jersey
415.7 was in the radio from then on
even when they stopped using it it was still in, even handheld
usually one bank is set up for government (ss,fbi, dea) types
so got to hear many things
i drove at different jobs usually with a scanner or two or three in the next seat
along with police call book and tom knietel's top secret book
i still vacuum the frequencies till this day
my way of saying they go on my list and never come off
as long as multiple radios are used you can do anything
not all are filled-up
bcd396t----6000 channels
pro2035----1000
pro2004-----400
pro43--------200
pro32--------200
pro2001------16
and some others--old but ok

Sorry for the slight off-topic, but the PRO-2004 heard lots of stuff!.
wtp,

I have and still use the PRO-2004. I had it modified from 300 to 400 channels too, with "Turbo" and Cell.

I remember visiting my girlfriend's sister and brother-in-law for the first time in the Newark area, who was DEA. (Newark is essentially NYC) We hopped in my car to go to the store. He hit me with the, "What's that? Ohhh, so what do you listen to?" (I said. "Everything")

When we got back to the house, he keyed up his hand held, and BINGO. Lots of stuff was just plain in-the-clear.

I had the red book similar to Police Call, about an inch thick, with FED stuff in it. Let's face it. Not so many people had scanners that were capable or people who were in the know or ways to share information.

I'm OK in CT with my BC and RS watching WX on TV via NBC.

TC!

It's a field office channel (likely) local to you. Most large cities have a local channel.

Where ?
Your profile doesn't indicate where, Please update it.

165.3375 is typically USCG along the Coasts and BLM inland.
