Default US State Dept. - Boston

A few weeks ago (around 1/30/13) I heard a good amount of activity on 409.5250/N293 mostly ENC over the course of several days. This frequency I have noted as US State Dept. and rarely get any activity at my location in NE Mass. Not sure what caused the increase in activity, but it was directly after our very own Sen. John Kerry was appointed Secretary of State. Any thoughts?

Probably Diplomatic Security Service repeater. Same frequency and NAC used in Chicago, except here, mostly in the clear :>}

If you ever hear it in the clear, DSS traffic sounds a lot like USSS PPD traffic.

Live-Shot lives in Bahstan, so expect more activity on this Freq related to him.

Ahh, brings back memories of the days of the SS in Maine, the Clinton visits to the Island

PS - DoS is always busy here in Boston. Many Colleges and Foreign Dig's visiting their kids at School and in May/June the Commencement Addressing and all School Season long the Speeches and Forums....

I've heard very little encryption on this frequency. The DoS is most likely using Kerry's old USSS codename of "Minuteman". They also use a simplex channel at times, called the Agent to Agent channel, I have never been close enough to verify the frequency.

I agree, up until now I have always hear what sounded to broken/distance simplex traffic (which is harder and harder to pick up in the digital era). Parking, traffic, event/escort operations, things like that, always in the clear. That's why it was strange to hear ENC over what sounded to be a repeater.
