Default 414.5625 N168 in Chicago Area

Hearing limited (but encrypted) traffic on 414.5625 N168 from roughly 17 miles due west of downtown Chicago today. Unable to tell if it is simplex or a repeater. FWIW, POTUS will give a speech in Chicago tonight, no way to know if this is connected or not. No previous local reception notes for this freq.

$168 and $169 have been observed on this in the past.
FL, MA, NC and TX

One thought was USPS OIG, but that might be a WAG

If the info for the above comes from a source other than your personal notes etc, could you point me in the right direction for the noted NC usage/Rx?

I'm hoping someone can confirm this. I've been getting 100% encrypted traffic on 170.750 NAC 293. Based on my location, I'm thinking this is FPS for the local Federal Courthouse.

I also get key ups close to the Courthouse on 171.100 but I've yet to catch the NAC because the key ups are so quick.

Could be US Marshals. USMS at fed courthouses use the that VHF range white a bit.

USM - Court Security Repeater.
Is this for Raleigh ??

There are atleast 10 Pairs allocated for the CSO's
Generally using $293, but a few others could be used, in a congested Federal Court area

Only info I have for 171.1000 is pre Y2K for the east coast, with the exception of images from other bands.

The frequency in question is in Winston-Salem,NC. My reasoning for believing it was FPS was a Federal Protective Service striped Tahoe I saw in front of the building but it is possible USMS provides security in unmarked vehicles as well.

Roger on WS

FPS is the lead Security for many Federal Buildings (Marked and Covert) as well as back-up to many others, such as the Federal Courts. You will notice them around many of the Courts, especially during a high profile trial/arraignment

Keep in-mind the 17x.xxxx is for the CSO [Court Security Officers], and likely Court-Room and inside security, other than a few walk-arounds [Perimeter Patrols], I've rarely seen the CSO [Blazer Uniforms] doing external security.... just my observations

As for FPS, they have VHF Radios in the Vehicles, but tend to be UHF for routine Operations.

Thanks for the insight, it is much appreciated. Obviously, I've never had a need to be inside the federal courthouse so I have no clue how things are setup inside or who provides security. I've only seen the marked Tahoe once during the weekend. I'm assuming it is normally kept in the parking deck and/or everything else is unmarked.
