Sheriff's gang officer killed in south Sacramento shooting

A Sacramento County sheriff's gang officer was shot and killed while on duty Wednesday afternoon in south Sacramento, Sacramento County John McGinness said. The report came in around 2 p.m. in the area of 42nd Avenue and 37th Street. The deputy, a 10-year veteran of the sheriff's department who has been a gang detective for three years, was with his partner in the neighborhood contacting gang members, according to Sgt. Tim Curran of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
As the deputies pulled up in front of a house near 41st Avenue and 37th Street where a "known gang member" lives, they made contact an Asian male with a thin build weighing 120 to 130 pounds with a dark complexion wearing a puffy green camouflage jacket, Curran said.
When the officers made eye contact with the man, he bolted into a backyard and the deputies gave chase, jumping fences. Soon after, the victim's partner heard two gunshots. The partner jumped over a fence and saw the deputy with a gunshot wound to his neck. The partner started first aid and immediately called for back-up. Officers have locked down a large part of the neighborhood while they search the neighborhood for a suspect. At 4:30 p.m., Maria Lopez, Sacramento City Unified School District spokeswoman, said district staff were closing the locked-down elementary schools for the day. At Maple, Ethel Phillips, Pacific, Huntington and Woodbine elementary schools, she said, staff were contacting parents and evacuating the campuses.
"We are making sure everyone leaves safely," Lopez said.

Anyone hear if they caught the suspect?
Not sure if it helps but I have FBI SWAT listed as 167.5375 (167.9 PL) on a nationwide basis. If it's a repeater, it's channel D5. If it's simplex, it's D6. Of course it could be different in different areas. 167.5625 is their nationwide common frequency (channel D4).
