Arrow TS Claudette approaches FL Panhandle

Tropical Depression #4 upgraded to Tropical Storm Claudette today.


At 11 a.m. 8/16/09, the National Hurricane Center upgraded TD #4 to TS Claudette. Projected landfall, at this time, put Claudette making landfall just west of Panama City, FL about 8 p.m. ET. Current wind maximum at 45 knots with a projected increase to 55 kts in 12 hours. Pressure 1008 mb. Movement NNW at 14 mph.

As of 230 p.m. today, the storm's outerbands were inland, just over Tallahassee, FL and the adjacent Georgia-Florida-Alabama corner.

Update/Final:

Approximately 2 a.m. ET 8/17/09, TS Claudette made landfall near Ft. Walton Beach, FL. The system is moving off to the NW at 12 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph. Rainfall accumulations are likely to total 10 inches in/near Claudette's path. Parts of Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee should appreciate alot of rain from Claudette over the next 24-36 hours.
