Brevard County, Florida law enforcement Proscan feed
After testing almost a month, I've decided that Proscan is the BEST solution for remote monitoring!
My Brevard County, Florida feed is now online full time. NOTE: 800MHZ Rebanding will be taking place VERY VERY soon in this area - feed may go down for reprogramming once I know the new frequencies!
I will make every effort to keep it online 24/7, but, there will be times where I am doing things on the server machine that will require me to take it offline.
The feed scanner is a Uniden BC785D and is located in Merritt Island, FL.
The feed is monitoring the Brevard County, FL EDACS trunked radio system and is within range of the Rockledge, FL tower which is located at the Brevard County EOC.
The feed is available at :
Name: scanbrevard.dyndns.org
Port: 443
My contact info:
Email: ScanBrevard@Gmail.com (this is forwarded to my normal email address - responses will be labeled as being from Jonathon Whipple)
AOL IM: ScanBrevard (usually online during work days)
Currently the feed has the following Law Enforcement agencies:
Brevard County Sheriff's Department
Cocoa Police Department
Rockledge Police Department
Melbourne Police Department
Palm Bay Police Department
Various Beach-side police departments
West Melbourne/Melbourne Village/Melbourne Beach (Listed as Melbourne Annexes)
All county-wide usage talkgroups.
Currently unaccessable from my location:
Titusville PD
In the future I may setup a feed for fire/EMS talkgroups.
Since I am local to where the shuttle launches, I will tune the feed to a local ham radio repeater that rebroadcasts NASA Select so that the shuttle launch countdown can be heard.
Any feedback is always appreciated - don't hesitate to IM or email me!
Enjoy!
Jon / KI4LIV

Unfortunately, no... I would need a tower and a severely high-gain antenna, not to mention an additional scanner to provide the feed with.
If anyone in the Daytona area has Proscan and would like some assistance setting up a feed, I'd be more than happy to provide the help!

Using proscan do you have to do anything other then set it up as a server? Are you then sending it over the internet or do you have to register your system etc? Thanks.

There's a couple of steps to get this where I have it right now.
#1 - I registered (payed for) Proscan.
#2 - I signed up with Dyndns.org (free) for the static host name.
#3 - I installed the DynDns updater, which loads with windows and monitors my external IP address and updates Dyndns when any changes occur.
#4 - I had to ensure that both Windows firewall (which I don't even use, but most people do ) allowed traffic through the port I wanted to use (I use 443 because I know I can get into it from work!), and that my wireless router forwarded traffic coming in on port 443 to the correct computer's IP address (I have numerous computers here on the home network).
That's pretty much it!

An alternate feed has been setup for those of you using either Windows Media Player or a Windows Mobile based cell phone.
For the Windows media feed, follow this:
mms://scanbrevard.dyndns.org:65407
For the Windows mobile feed, open the following URL in your Windows Media Player on your phone:
mms://scanbrevard.dyndns.org:65407/*
Please contact me if you have any issues!
PLEASE NOTE: THIS FEED IS 10 SECONDS (OR MORE) BEHIND THE PROSCAN FEED!

In an effort to reduce downtime due to non-scanner related activities, I'll be moving the feed to another PC probably within the week. This PC has 2 serial connections and two sound cards, so I will be able to add a second ProScan feed.
So, I'll be feeding one from my BC785D and another from my BR330T.
The plan currently is to feed law enforcement (due to the larger number of talkgroups) from the BR330T, and Fire/EMS from the BC785D.
If there is anything anyone wants (specifics please!), please let me know and I'll make sure that it's in the scan list.
Please note - the Windows Media feed will continue, however until I test further, I can not guarantee that I can do a Windows Media feed for BOTH Law Enforcement and Fire/EMS. If the machine can only handle one Windows Media feed, it will be for Law Enforcement.
There is also the possibility of the port for the Windows Media feed changing - please keep an eye on this thread for any changes!
Thanks!

Can you hear the First Flight traffic on 453.025 from your location? That might be a good one for the fire/ems feed. 155.160 is also used.

Scott,
I can give it a whirl. I'll need to setup a conventional bank to be scanned in addition to the EDACS bank, but that's no trouble.

Well, I guess you just have to move if you can't hear it from where you are now!

Jon are there Fire/EMS talk groups on your feed? Does Brevard Simu-Cast from UHF or VHF ? Sometimes with so much PD traffic you can't tell not to mention I have 3 or 4 going at once
thanks for the effort you put into this feed. The folks that make these on-line feeds available for us to enjoy are a testament to the hobby. There new feeds being added almost daily from all over the US. Its good to know that SOME of the airwaves in Florida are in still the clear

Kevin,
I have them programmed into the radio, but, there is so much activity already on the law enforcement talkgroups that you start getting only fragments of conversations when you throw in the fire/ems.
Because of this I have opted to setup another machine that will let me have both my BC785D and BR330T feeding to Proscan separately.
As soon as I can get a wireless card for that other machine I will transfer the feed work over to it.
The only simulcast that I am familiar with is for the volunteers. They page out on VHF frequencies. If anyone else goes out on VHF/UHF I am not familiar with.
I actually setup the feed for myself originally because my company decided to put up a cellular repeater in the building, which effectively overloaded any/all of my scanners plus my GE M-PA radio (which the county uses/used). So, I setup the feed originally on WME but then when I found ProScan I was sold! The WME is still setup for cellphone feeding though (in case I want to listen but dont have my scanner with me!).
When I upgraded to RoadRunner Turbo, I decided to make the feeds public as I had a lot of extra bandwidth to share - why not let others enjoy it too? :-)
I really do enjoy doing this - as long as I have the hardware and internet connection, I'll keep it going!

UGH - I'm about frazzled right now.
The machine I was going to move the feeds to has serious hardware problems...
To add insult to injury, the hard drive that the feeds are coming from right now is starting to have hard drive issues...
SO...
That having been said, I am going to have to bite the bullet and buy a new hard drive for the system drive tomorrow and reload. I expect to be back online no later than tomorrow evening.
I'll keep it up and running as long as I can, but expect the occasional drop-out this evening while I try to fix the drive issues without doing a full reload or hardware replacement.
I'll post an update when I have one!

Ok this is worse than I thought. Half of the applications that I have on this machine now are no longer communicating with the internet - this includes ProScan! . I'm going to try doing a re-format/re-install of Windows and see if a full format fixes the disk issues.

I've replaced the hard drive AND added a USB to serial adapter, so I now can run both scanners from the same machine.
OS is installing updates as I type this. I am on target for having it back online this evening.
