Just Retrieved My RS Pro-2005 From Storage - Orlando
I just dusted off my Radio Shack Pro-2005, 400 channel, programmable scanner from about a 5 year hiatus. Inserted a fresh backup battery and plugged it in; works fine.
Since packing my scanner away, I've moved from New York state to Orlando, FL.
Do you have a list of the Police, Sheriff, State, EMS, Fire, and Air frequencies you could send me?
Lots of things seem to have changed. Analog/digital? Is my radio obsolete?
THANK YOU!!!!

While there is still a good deal of stuff that your 2005 can pick-up in the Orlando area, the vast majority of Orlando and Orange County public safety comms are on APCO25 800 mHz trunked radio systems, which the Pro-2005 is unable to follow.
Time for a new (digital capable) scanner....
Take a tour of this site's database for a complete list of frequencies and radio systems in your area.

OK, entered the 50-odd 800 frequencies in the "trunked" section of my county's database on this site (and several other frequencies). Since you seem to know something about my RS Pro-2005, please help me understand what I'm missing here. You recommend a "digital" scanner? I suspect there's a significant puzzle piece that I'm not seeing. My 2005 isn't the fastest scanner in the West, but what am I not understanding, what am I not receiving with my current setup? What does a digital scanner do that my 2005 doesn't, other than operate at a much faster speed? Seems I may have missed a lot in the last six years. It's been difficult enough keeping up with computer tech, now with my scanner? Oy!

However with a good antenna (and perhaps a small preamp to give it a kick in the front end), that radio is a fine milair starter radio. See this Yahoo group for more 73 Mike

Unfortunately Orlando PD are encrypted, so it might be time to move back to NY if you want to continue scanning.

Now there's a reason to return to the snow, freezing rain, and sub-zero temps, not to mention the highest tax rate in the galaxy! Can''t use my scanner. Hmmmm. Wonder if my wife would concur.

Yes there is, you scanner is an analog scanner only, it doesn't have the capability to decode digital signals.
Here is a couple of wiki link to read up on digital scanning and choosing scanners:

Not sure why you bothered entering the trunk frequencies since my original reply advised that your Pro-2005 is UNABLE TO TRACK TRUNKED SYSTEMS.
Your scanner is only capable of receiving Conventional frequencies whereas trunked frequencies are an entirely different animal, regardless of whether they broadcast in analog or digital voice format.
The best analogy would be that, trying to receive and follow trunked digital systems on your Pro-2005 would be like trying to receive digital cable TV signals on your home TV without having a digital convertor box hooked up. Ain't gonna happen.
A digital scanner has the "guts" to decode digital signals that your 2005 completely lacks. You can program the trunked frequencies into your 2005 and it will accept them. It just lacks the requisite balls to decode them.
