Default Palm Beach Sheriff Radios

Hi,
Just curious of what type of portable the deputies carry? It appears to be a Motorola portable but is brown in color and the mic has a beveled corner on one side.

They use MTS2000's. They used to carry Standard HX400's that have been on some episodes of COPS, but that is going back 10 to 12 years. Those were brown and had the shoulder mic you described.

Ah,
That explains it . The year of the episode is not displayed on my Verizon FIOS service. Thanks

Default Pbso

I loved the upside down antennas (looked like a smiley, but not sure). on those 400's!

That was always a unique feature I haven't seen anywhere else.

Were the dual VHF antennas on most cars phased together or did they serve a different purpose for each?

2 years ago, I purchased a retired 2000 P71 Police Interceptor from Palm Beach... the trunk deck lid had 2 Motorola NMO mounts... one off center to the left, and one off center to the right... they were spaced exactly 18 inches apart from each other, dont know if they were phased, but they were quite close. The vehicle only had these 2 NMO mounts w/ coax run up to the between the seats area, and there were no antennas attatched to the NMO's, but I utilized the 2 mounts for 800 Mhz antennas.

You can see pics of my cruiser on my profile, under albums... there is a pic of the trunk deck lid, with the added antennas I have since installed.

Seperate purposes. They had a VHF voice system and a VHF Kustom MDT system that you can see on some shorts. Had a very small 3 or 4" diagonal green screen.

The upside down antennas were Centurian brand and still available today. They worked well by keeping the antennas out from under the d/s armpit that in some cases would desense the radio's receiver.

I worked in the radio shop for 10 years when they were VHF and can answer any questions you may have.

Default Hx400

Std HX400's were a damn good radio, the rx audio packed a punch!

I loved listening to PBSO on VHF. That system had some talk out power! They could be heard in North Florida almost nightly in the fall on cool nights.
