Any idea if and when the county will go encrypted?

According to my sources, there are currently NO plans whatsoever to go encrypted. Which doesn't mean it won't happen eventually but as of now, no, no such plans exist according to my very well placed sources.

This county sees little benefit to encrypting regular traffic, particularly when you factor in the high cost of adding encryption to the entire system. It's over a thousand bucks a radio not even counting how much it would cost to add it to the entire system infrastructure. The county just doesn't have the
budget to spend on that even if they WANTED to.

One advantage of today's soft economy is that system upgrades to harder to monitor systems will be
few and far between for quite some time now.

There are a few talkgroups that use ProVoice. Palm Bay's former 3rd dispatch channel uses ProVoice, and I'm able to monitor that with my radios. Those cops have no clue that they're being monitored in that mode. What I've heard them say (sometimes) on that talkgroup would be grounds
for a week's suspension without pay, if the chief heard it.

More proof that encryption (or "unmonitorable"proprietary digital) leads to abuse by its users.
