Smile Orange County: Good Scanner Brand/Type?

I'm window shopping for a new scanner to replace my RS Pro-2005. Am seeking your best advice on what to look for: trunking? digital? Radio Shack? Bearcat? Necessary accessories -- cable, software, etc.

Cannot afford the $500 level; am hoping there may be something out there in the $200 range.

Best place to purchase from?

Thanks so much!! -Bob

Default Orange County good scanner brand type

Bob, I am not going to recommend a replacement scanner as there are a ton of guys on the site who will give you very informed answers to your question in short order, I am just going to give you three stores in the area who when you decide which scanner to get & can't wait for snailmail delivery they may have them in stock.

Cool

You might want to think about used. I paid $480 at Dayton for my 396xt. I still have a PRO96 but the xt is a much better scanner, receiver and capacity wise. No software to buy using Freescan

Also the Hamstation in Indiana will get used ones in every so often, also try the Ham radio tailgates but you have to look hard.
