Smile Is Florida clumsy?

I've just been listening a few days now however I keep hearing EMS calls from people that fell down. I was also surprised that so many people are driving with expired or suspended license.
You learn a lot about your community with a scanner.

Up here we call those "gravity storms". Falls are one of the top medical responses in many communities. I suppose Mrs. Fletcher and LifeAlert didn't help, making people think that a simple tumble was worth 9-1-1.

You do learn a lot. One of my friends that knows I have a scanner got pulled over the other day and as soon as he got finished he sent me a text right away saying "I bet your laughing right now", because he knows I have it on all the time. Its so nice getting to know whats going on around you though. Especially with traffic, usually I know if theres an accident and can make sure I find another way to get where I am going.

Before my wife died and my children all graduated from Univesity, got married and moved away, I also used to be mildly amused by the large number of 911/EMS calls from people who had fallen and coujldn't get up since they lived alone they didn't need transport to a medical facility, the simply need someone to 'give the a hand' so they coulld get get back up.

Now, with my advancing age, while I have not yet been reduced to 'making the call', I have had a close call but after 20 minutes I managed to lever myself upright again!

I'm not as amused by these calls as I was previously.

I expect for a Male, it must be a lot like Prostrate trouble, live long enought and you will have it too!

We had someone recently who needed more than just a hand. He weighed 800 pounds and was wedged in a hallway. It took a huge effort to get him out of the hallway, then get him on his feet. He was not injured, just stuck.

Yeah in case you haven't noticed there's a lot of elderly people in fla. When they fall down it can be very serious. I've had two familily members in recent years just simply fall, with while standing or fall out of a bed and break bones. And they don't recover from that.

As for the driving with suspended of expired license, you may have also noticed the traffic hyper-enforcement that is everywhere you look in central florida. I don't know how long you've been there but if you give it enough time, I'm sure you'll find your license in jeopardy too. They're hiding behind every bush, they're watching from aircraft. If you break a traffic law in central florida, you're gonna get caught.

Seems like quite a few unattended deaths around here probably for quite a few reasons. It's unfortunate to go that way. Never read about it in the news.

I worked in law enforcement communications for several years and can tell you that it does run in spurts with different kinds of calls for help. Spring break is usual a time for the general stupidity along the beaches with drunk college kids. It is never boring though.

Traffic enforcement in Fl is job one.

You also have to realize that Florida has a realtively large senior population (It's pretty much a big friggin retirement community) So you're going to get a lot of IMA's for falls and whatnot. the people on suspended livenses.... Thats just pure stupidity.
