Apart from using an actual Kenwood radio...

Kenwood radios will not pass audio from a trunk system unless the radio ESN is provisioned in the system. Kenwood radios will not pass audio from a trunk system even if all the frequencies are programmed as conventional NXDN channels.

Before you go off the left side kn1n, I am decoding type d with my 5700 with no issue at all. I drive through that county so I am speaking with firm and valid accountability here.

I scan it using conventional scan, nxdn. I decode the TG, and the uid.

They are type D, totally different than the type C.

They currently are NOT encrypted.
The system is not using esn validate for type D either.

Edit: I have VHF icom radios, and it follows fine cause I know the system info too. 5700 Kenwood is type C only in trunk mode.

Fair enough. I was under the impression they would not pass audio from trunk systems in conventional mode. Thank you for this information

Yeah, type C is total wicked but I have heard from none ran systems you can monitor them, site equals ran code, and scan those channels.

The Levy county system is multisite conventional NXDN with 6 sites total, it is NOT type D trunking. Dixie county is running a similar system.

Simple Question - Can Levy Sheriff be picked up on any scanner available today? If so, What do I need to listen in?

Any one of the ones that can do NXDN.
I use my work radios, not sure what's out there to be honest.

And these will get both sides of the conversation or is it a hit or miss deal?

As long as it isn't encrypted, you should hear both sides.
