Coast Guard offshore radio communications restored along South Florida coast

MIAMI — Coast Guard Sector Miami reported offshore radio communication capability has been restored Thursday.

"We still remind mariners to check all safety equipment, file a float plan with a friend or family member prior to getting underway and always wear a life jacket," said Lt. Cmdr. Scott Farr, Sector Miami chief of incident management. "Being prepared for a maritime emergency prior to getting underway by having the appropriate equipment like an emergency position indicating radio beacon, flares, life jackets and a maritime VHF-FM radio can often narrow our search efforts and can lead to a more rapid rescue."
