Default Cape Canaveral Cruise Ships

Yesterday I was at the park where the cruise ships go in an out of the port. I began to wonder if there was anything interesting to listen to when they go by. Does the coast guard have any interesting communication in that area?

Default Cape Canaveral Cruise Ships

Coast Guard radio traffic is interesting when The Cape is preparing to launch anything. When I was returning from a cruise Jan. 06, I didn't understand why the Coast Guard was announcing off limit areas and times for mariners. Then I realised from listening to Space Center frequencies that a launch was scheduled for later that day. The escort boats for the ships didn't have too much radio traffic. I was lucky that day, but I don't know what the everyday traffic is like.

Post Cruise Ship Frequencies and Maritime Monitoring

Great place to sit and watch, eh?

Yes, there is plenty to listen to, from the VHF Marine to the UHF Maritime allocations.
The UHF allocations, usually involve preperations to dock or final operations to disembark the Pilot for departures. Along with Hotel and Security ops.

Also with Disney being home-ported there, the 800 Mhz allocations do come into play, altho I had minimal luck, until the ship was passing -by.

A good resources, if you want to time your Park Visits
http://www.cruisecal.com allows you to put in the date range and the port, and
sort by Date. Used this for my last cruise to see who-else was going to be in-port.

For the rest of the month you have
Line Ship Port Date Arrive Depart webcam
Carnival Cruise Lines Elation 4-23-2007 departure 4pm
Carnival Cruise Lines Sensation 4-23-2007 arriving 7:00 AM
Royal Caribbean Sovereign Of The Seas 4-23-2007 arr 7:00 AM Depart 5:00 PM
Disney Cruise Line Disney Wonder 4-26-2007 arr-7:35 AM depart-4:00 PM
Carnival Cruise Lines Sensation 4-26-2007 depart 4:00 PM
Royal Caribbean Sovereign Of The Seas 4-27-2007 depart-5:00 PM
Carnival Cruise Lines Carnival Glory 4-28-2007 depart- 4:00 PM
Disney Cruise Line Disney Magic 4-28-2007 arr-7:35 AM depart 4:00 PM
Carnival Cruise Lines Elation 4-28-2007 arr-7:00 AM depart-4:00 PM
Disney Cruise Line Disney Wonder 4-29-2007 arr-7:35 AM depart-4:00 PM
Royal Caribbean Mariner Of The Seas 4-29-2007 arr-7:00 AM
Carnival Cruise Lines Sensation 4-29-2007 depart-4:00 PM
Carnival Cruise Lines Sensation 4-30-2007 arr-7:00 AM
Royal Caribbean Sovereign Of The Seas 4-30-2007 arr-7:00 AM depart-5:00 PM

We are still looking for frequencies/tones for:
Carnival Elation
Carnival Glory

as well as more 800 information on the Disney Ships.

The Glory, at least, uses Motorola portables for communications within the ship, somewhere in the UHF band. But there is likely to be very little that's very interesting to listen to as it's all routine ship's business. You might hear things like, "The Colors bar is out of martini glasses. Send some up from the dishwasher right away." Or, "Pool maintenance crew please report to the aft pool immediately. Some kid barfed up a pound of bacon in the pool...again...and it needs to be drained and refilled ASAP." Or "Purser's mate to housekeeping: Please send a cleanup crew to cabin 6-379. The elderly man in that cabin lost control of his bowels again and didn't make it to the bathroom."

Yeah, it's not likely to be really interesting listening.

You never know what you will hear.

Medical Emergency, USCG Helo landing on Forward Deck
Medicals, VIP Visits. Lifeboat Drills [When in port] many can make
for nice Photo Ops.
