So, what is your target?

I would like to make something that is universal. Make a program that could search the database, state/counties selected then write it to a format of the users choice. I have a pro-2055 but this would not be just for my scanner. you could search the database through the program select what you want and as much as you want then save it in the format for your scanner. Like a .p97 , and I am quessing a .p96 or whatever the case may be. A multi program for a group of scanners. I think this would be neat. But so far it is waaaaayyy to hard for me to figure out how to do. I am sure someone might know how to do this if I could somhow spark someone who knows how to program interest.

Okay, a couple of things. It would be pretty hard for you to write a program that would output in some of the software defined files. For example, to write a ".96" or ".97" file format you would have to know what it is, I can tell you that it is close to the actual data stream dump file from the actual radios, which you are not going to get by asking. Don isn't going to give you his actual format and GRE isn't going to provide thiers with out an confidentiality agreement with them. Buetel has similar restrictions on thier formats. You should concentrate on "open" formats and maybe a generic CSV format output.
As for getting the data off of the system that is easy, I see you are a contributing member so try this link to sample what comes down the pike when you access the web service (be prepared to supply your user ID and password):

If you need help, let me know. I started doing something like that in VB6, then stopped when so many other programs became available for the Uniden dynamic memory model became available. But the internet access and data parsing routines would be the same, regardless of the format of the output data.

Try this page. Since Keith put this up, I don't think there's any reason to use a program to do it.

Sorry, but that doesn't help.
People are sending in scanner programming files to be posted and they are being detached and posted accordingly - but where?

yes it does. I used it the other night.
you have to be a donating member to RR for it to work.
the username and password in ARC is your username and password for RR.
again, won't work unless you've donated $.
once donated, access is instant, works great!

ARC396 can only be used with trunked systems from the RRDB at this time.

Since I think you're talking about Conn., did you try that forum? Apart from the RS forum, that, plus the ConnScan, Pro-97 and Pro-2055 Yahoo groups, would be the logical places to try. 73s Mike

Insofar as finding a place to put files, you can attach a file (within limits) inside a message. We've been doing that on and off in the Maryland forum, and it works just fine. There just isn't one place to put them all, and let's face it - managing it would probably end up to be a nightmare. Just post your files in the appropriate states' forum.
As to the question of a 'universal format', there is one that is handeled by most of the better programs out there - csv files, or comma seperated values (I've also seen cdf which is a comma delimited file - same difference). In addition, this format is supported by Excel and Works spreadsheet, among many other apps I probably am not thinking about at the moment. In addition some output files (such as those from ARC250) with a .mem extension are really reformatted csv files anyway, with a little tweak here and there.
I don't think you're going to get any closer to a 'universal' format than that. 73s Mike

Admins,
Attached is a ZIP file based on the below info:
This file covers the Jackson County, MS TRS
It was created in Uniden's "UASD" software for the Uniden BCD396T
This file would be appropriate under Jackson County, MS for the county's TRS

Simple. RRDB could create an export repository, or "wiki," by which users contribute export code snippets. So, rather than swap "files," users would contribute SQL queries or PHP routines, for example, that generate the desired export files from the RRDB. These would be selectable during RRDB export. The RRDB gods would need only provide a list of queriable database fields (frequency, latitude, longitude, etc.) and sufficient security to prevent submission of hostile code (e.g., "DELETE * FROM TABLE_X"). Granted, this is overly-simplified for clarity, but is very achievable.
Alternately, they could create a unique API, but this'd require quite a bit more effort. In effect, they'd be creating a Scanner Query Export Language.... Oh, I just need a "C" and an "H" and we've got "SQUELCH!" :-D

With the aforementioned wiki, you'd answer all of these requirements. All manner of "open" and product-specific CSV formats would be promptly supported by the community. Furthermore, those proprietary file formats would likely be covered by their respective vendors (who would anxiously submit export code in order to promote their products) or perhaps a determined hacker. I'm not sure about PHP, but I know that ColdFusion, for example, can be encrypted such that a vendor's export code would not necessarily reveal any trade secrets.
Just a thought.

Anyway, you can store such data files on the various Yahoo groups. This is of course if there is one (or more than one) for your area. I've built a nice little list of these groups that range throughout the US and some Canadian ones as well, and use it quite frequently. You're more than welcome to it if you wish (Lindsay, that goes for you too, of course).
73s Mike
P.S. Come to think of it, MSN groups and I think Smartgroups (British based) also have a similar feature.
|
Hi Mike,
Can I get a list of some Canadian Groups available on the net when you have time.
Thanks,
Scraplady
