"other hobbies"
Where would a guy post other hobbies like fishing, hunting etc.? Maybe you could add a forum? Thanks

Here is fine: Everything else - The RadioReference.com Forums. In the mean time I'll think about an Outdoor Sporting forum for the Tavern.
Also, please make note of Stickies. Moved to the Forums Admin forum.

This is RadioReference.com, not EveryHobbyUnderTheSun.com. Try Yahoogroups.

Thank you for your positive contribution to this thread.

How is suggesting an arguably more suitable venue for non-radio hobbies not a "positive contribution" to the thread?

Other-Dave's comments aside, Lindsay if I may put you on the
spot, what was the rationale for expanding the Tavern/Wasteland
to the extent it has i.e. to accomodate just about every off-topic
discussion? Maybe it's been covered elsewhere, just wondering.
I was sort of hoping it would go away; no offense to the OP.

The point of the expansion was to allow better organization and promote more meaningful discussion.
I for one hated to read the Tavern/Wasteland the way it was because it had no organization. You can't count on people to compose subjects that will reflect the overall topic. Now it's less time consuming to find something of interest.

Why not start a poll regarding the new "tavern/wasteland section?

It would be interesting to see how many prefer the old Tavern vs. the new. I used to enjoy skimming through the posts and having a few laughs after a hard day. It was therapeutic. The new version doesn’t have the same relaxed atmosphere and requires a lot of clicking and searching to find interesting topics. Therefore, I rarely go there. I miss the old Tavern and hope it comes back some day.

Well I sure don't.
Indeed, the only time I went to the Wasteland was when I had to as a moderator. Now, I actually have the ability to enjoy one of the sub-forums as a user...I still avoid the majority of it on a routine basis however.
Also, a poll is a sort of a useless thing when discussing site administration; the guy who is responsible for the "Tavern Explosion" is Wayne, and he pretty well knows what the membership wants balanced against what the site needs to keep things civil.

I rarely visit the Tavern because I found a rather high "redneck" factor
and a narrow range of opinion when it comes to politics, gun-control etc.
So, I subscribe to the concept of "if you don't like it, don't go there".
Giving the off-topic crowd a bigger sandbox to play in may actually
be a good strategy if it helps divert a lot of the drek away from the
on-topic forums. Expanding the Tavern risks attracting a lot of losers
many of whom have no particular interest in radio, which will increase
parenting (er, moderating) efforts, and could eventually spill over into
other areas. I hope that would not happen, for the sake of the majority
who come to RR for its radio aspects. As for the expanded Tavern,
we shall see what happens...
