Thumbs down Do we really need wireless User Agents?

Do we really need Wireless User Agents included with every post made from a wireless device, and further, do we really need this useless information repeated over and over in quotes?

What is the added value of including this? All I see is additional clutter.

This utterly useless information could be represented with some sort of W icon, and the user agent information included in a mouse-over "tool-tip", if at all.

Just a suggestion...

Maybe a cute little icon would do.

(Something like that)

Well I altered my useragent to see if it would show up without an iphone and nothing. Damn! He must also have it resolve the IP address. Or the useragent is wrong.

I'll turn it off soon - but for now it is a great advertisement for the fact that we have mobile device support.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's just a little bit of text. Why bother removing it?

I personally like the mobile post thing. I especially like the mobile forums after I figured out you can customize the number of posts per page. 4 was just too little. My blackberry can handle way more!

It doesn't bother me really. Kinda jealous though.

I've seen this implementation in the Mac forums too.

Any suggestions on what setting in a smartphone may be preventing me from seeing buttons like the reply & quote buttons that are in the lower right of each post here on my desktop pc? I was going to reply to this post but can't see a way to do so.

What OS are you using, what browser are you using, are you trying to view it in mobile or just regular?

Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (recently upgraded from 6.0 via a link provided by my cell company)
Internet Explorer is the browser, I was viewing this site in mobile mode as far as I know.

Opera Mobile - Download
Get Skyfire now! | get.skyfire.com

There are 2 that are way better than IE6, skyfire has flash support so you can view the database like on your computer. Opera and skyfire can view the website in mobile or regular.

I didn't realize IE6 was a mobile client.

No upgrades, just some minor configuration changes.

Wirelessly posted (Woody's iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

The way things are going, we might soon need an icon to distinguish posts not made from a mobile device.

I like the idea of a little icon at the top of the posted message if it could be implemented. I have no idea what all that text means, but I recognize iPhone.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.1 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; ) 400x240 LGE VX10000)

The text doesn't really bother me either. I notice it, but it's small enough that I know it isn't part of the actual message so I sort of skip over it.

Obviously, it isn't that intrusive because I had never noticed it until this thread. So I had to come and post from my iPhone to see it in action.
