Default Cannot edit posts

I am unable to edit my recent posts in the California forum. I have IE 8 on an XP machine and a Vista 64-bit machine. There is no "edit post" option anywhere on the page, even though it says "You may edit your posts" under "Posting Rules".

How long have the posts been there? There was a thread a while back about the fact that the editing window is much shorter than it used to be, something like two hours IIRC.

Both posts were from yesterday (May 10).

I believe that is the situation then, did you check your new post and see if the Edit icon is there?

Yes, the edit window for your posts is two hours.

I posted this thread recently. So if you make a post, best make sure you say all you want to say, your spelling is correct, your context is like it should be, you're not ashamed of what you posted, or be prepared to make an additional post. The life expectancy of the Edit Button has been severely curtailed. It is entering the realm of Endangered Species.

EDIT TO ADD: Before "The Change," you could also make at least one edit to your posts without the flag at the bottom of the page notifying readers there had been an edit to them. No longer.

Yup, sure enough the "Edit" button is gone. This "change" sucks! Thanks for the replies, everyone

Thread moved to the proper forum. Please try to post in the proper area.

Not quite. You can still do that, it depends on if someone has viewed the post or the site has issued the subscription notification on the update to the thread. In either case (both now and before the change) the "Last edited" message gets stuck on the post.

The window was shortened to two hours, but that was the only change; prior to that it was like ~12 hours. This was done to allow short term edits in the classified. Even I have to edit my posts occasionally but that is because I noticed I left out a word or something after I hit submit. Funny, I almost always preview my posts and when I am in a hurry, I end up having to edit because I didn't preview, which always takes longer.

I thought "Overall Site Administration" was the proper forum because it says "The place to discuss administration related issues, including feature requests, help on using site features and functionality, and reporting bugs.", and I thought that the inability to edit a post was a "bug". Oh well.

Same here. Sometimes I find out later that I left something out, even though I previewed my post before clicking "Submit Reply".

If you only read its description it seems logical but if you then scroll down and see the others, or read the Sticky in the Overall Site Admin forum, I think it covers it well enough.
