'502 Service Unavailable' messages?
Since the upgrade, I've been getting erratic messages like the one above when trying to access the forums. I've also been seeing 504s (unrecognized request) in the wiki, but in each case, refreshing the request restores it.
Anyone else seeing this? 73 Mike

I got it too this morning in my state discussion board.
503 Service Unavailable
No server is available to handle this request.
-----------------------------
I have found that if you keep hitting the refresh button on your browser tool bar you'll eventually get a radioreference server to handle your request.

I also got the message this AM, along with having to login to the forums 4 times before it actually showed me logged in, then it showed that had just logged in. Nothing on my PC has changed in last 48 hours and connectivity yesterday was OK.

I too have been getting 503s about every 10 page views this morning.

Ditto......
Edit: That was fun! As I clicked the button to submit the above response I got the 503 again, I refreshed again and clicked to submit again and I got a window telling me that I was making a double post. Weird, first tells you that server is unable to process request then it does show up when retried.
Growing pains.........

Sounds like vBulletin may be part of your problem. cruisecritic.com uses vBulletin and has all kinds of server timeout issues.

It keeps resetting the vB session cookie prematurely, which is getting really annoying. What that means is, everything is getting marked as 'read' when I haven't read a single new post. In fact, the "You last visited:" time is not even displaying correctly, a key indicator that something is whacky between vB and the servers. It almost seems as if vB keeps jumping servers or proxies and the board cookies can't deal with the changes. Also, the mobile version hasn't been working properly since the "infrastructure upgrade". Might've been a good idea to test these changes before implementing them in the live environment.

Please be patient res6cue six, we moved 5 major production components yesterday, so there are always going to be issues. We're busting our ass over here.... sheesh...

I've made some changes to the proxies which should help with some of the cookie and session problems.
More tweaking to do, and to add insult to injury Google has decided to index all Nextel FCC licenses this morning which really put a beating on our primary slave database server.
We're playing whack-a-mole this morning

Ok ok, I'm in a better mood now. Good luck chasing down all the bugs, I know firsthand how frustrating that can be.

Not a lot of people realize how big of an operation this is, compared to the amount of people doing the development and system administration (me).
RadioReference is one of the top 5000 sites on the Internet, and since the summer our traffic has grown 20% EACH MONTH. All these changes this week are staging us for the ability to support 1000% growth.... and real high demands if a major incident happens or significant exposure is given to RR.
Pair that with 10GB of databases, 50-75MB of traffic going out on audio servers, managing 1300 audio feeds, archiving them, a system for our RRDB, the wiki, picky forums users... well, you see there is a lot on our plates.

There's a story behind that. If you ever find any personal "down time" I'll tell ya bout it.

Lindsay,
You had me laughing with that...something about probably being about the same age and having some similar life experiences...
