Why Does Blatant Bias Exist On the RR Forums?
In the Amateur Radio General Information forum we have two threads that are central information sources for two different amateur radio digital system formats. We have the Apco 25 Ham Systems thread, and we have the D-STAR Systems thread. Why does the Apco 25 thread get a sticky and the D-STAR thread not get a sticky?
Both threads serve to inform amateur radio operators (and others who may be interested) information about systems and sources of information to get onboard, although the P25 information web site link is "password enabled" to only allow only a priviledged few access (strange). The D-STAR information site links provided in the D-STAR Systems thread have no access restrictions. There are a number of useful links that not only provide detailed information about all D-STAR repeaters worldwide, but also demo the methods of programming radios and have actual digital audio and routing examples that show how well D-STAR works. D-STAR repeaters out-number P25 amateur repeaters in the USA, and especially out-number P25 repeaters worldwide. D-STAR is growing internationally at a very fast pace. It is growing at a much faster pace than P25 is. D-STAR has taken root in a big way and is here to stay. Those who are on the worldwide network are excited at how well this new technology actually works. They want to share that with the amateur community. Many who are curious about D-STAR and its seamless (and quiet) routing features need a source of accurate information. We D-STAR users hear it all the time. The forums here are supposed to encourage information sharing, yes? That was the intent behind the D-STAR Systems thread. The D-STAR Systems thread, for the short time it has been posted, has a very high number of views indicating great interest, yet it is allowed to fall off the board for a period of inactivity (not any greater than the P25 thread).
So why does one "system thread" get a sticky and the other doesn't? Is there some bias here with the RR Forum administrators? Can you please sticky the D-STAR Systems thread?
Phil

Phil,
We the RR team are not bias towards this, we are not mind readers. If you felt strongly towards making this a sticky all you needed to do is ask here or the appropriate moderator for that forum.
I made this a sticky for you, ask and you shall receive. This does not mean that we will start making stickies everywhere just because someone would like one. This is a popular subject so we stuck it

Awww, but what fun would it have been to simply ASK to have the thread stickied? Obviously making a thread like this calling the RR staff out over a perceived slight or bias was the better course of action!

Definitely a sticky situation! Tactfully handled by our non-bias moderators!

Good one! I wasn't being sarcastic, I was serious. As pointed out to the OP, all he had to do is ask. P25 is discussed much more often on RR, than D-Star, and that's a fact. So it makes sense that a P25 sticky would appear first.

Any time anyone wants any type of post administration done the proper way to get our attention is to report the post. Reporting a post is not strictly for notifying us of improper behavior. If you want it taken care of quickly and properly, report it; don't PM a moderator (like me for example).
We do not read every post or have some kind of alert system. If you ask for us in a thread we don't read we will not know. This goes for you Classifieds sellers especially.
Also, even though it's a Sticky I can't guarantee people will read it. That seems like typical RR fashion. /s

Tonsoffun,
Thank you. I had hoped I would not have to ask openly, although I did ask Wayne H in a PM prior to starting the thread because I thought a central place for the topic and info would be useful for all interested in this growing digital format. It turned out to be a hot topic as expected. This exciting development in amateur radio is catching on. I waited to see what would happen. Nothing happened, and that is why I posted here. It just seemed odd that one was favored over the other...and I did ask in a PM.
Thanks again.
Phil

Yeah, and all it took were those 8 simple words:
"Can you please sticky the D-STAR Systems thread?"
Luckily everybody was able to still focus after reading the first part of the message

Really?
Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
I think that little gem that you see when you click on the Report icon probably tends to make people refrain from using the Report function.
