Default Buy GRE with current situation?

I was planning to buy a PSR800 in the near future but now with the recent news of GRE having business issues I am on the fence about buying something that may not have support or future updates. Based on what I read they will offer support for the foreseeable future.

The only other scanner I was looking at was the Uniden 396XT. I decided on the PSR800 because of the database on the SD card and the P25 phase II support.

I guess I need to make a decision soon since I would expect that GRE scanners will be hard to come by.

Smile Buying Decision

My perception is that GRE is going to resume production of its scanners. They just need to establish a new manufacturing facility/source.

There was a post today in the GRE forum indicating that the PSR-900 would be released in the 2nd Quarter of 2013.

I remain optimistic that GRE will continue to produce and market scanners.

I suggest that you base your purchase decision on the performance features and cost of the scanners available when you are ready to buy..

Now whether or not it will actually happen remains to be seen.

Another thing,

If you're worried about warranty service, GRE has stated they will still service all current warranties!

Buy away!

i would personally wait and see what uniden has up their sleeve. if you want a digital scanner, wait for tdma. not to start anything, but wasn't there someone posting erroneous comment's about gre's future, without gre actually releasing the statements ?.

To add to that, todays electronics are so reliable that if it works OK for several hours, it will likely continue working for many years.

For how long? What about scanners purchased today, will the warranty center be open a year from today?

Too many unknowns for me to even think of purchasing one.

After having my PSR-500 for about 6 months, the blue portion of the LED went to dim & intermittently not working. GRE fixed it under warranty.

Default You will have protection

for your GRE should you purchase that scanner. I would not worry about other factors; the warranties are there and in place for you and all other consumers.

The reason I asked is because i have not seen any statements by GRE about the PSR-900 specifically.

I was also very skeptical about the situation as well, but once I got the 800, I haven't any problems, it's a great scanner.

I look at future support, be it radio repair, any firmware updates and probably most important the pro 18/ gre 800's access to supported updates?

Sadly, I would personally work under the assumption that GRE scanners are done for good.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm still on the fence and closely watching pricing and availability of the PSR800. I really like the database on the SD card and it's making it hard to settle on the 396XT.

I have a 500 about a year old. Matter of fact, I opened a support ticket wednesday and they have responded. I am not too concerned. any other company going thru a similiar issue would have long been unable to locate with a warrant.

GRE americas is still there, still answering support tickets. I dunno. If you want an 800 get it. If you prefer Uniden, get that.

Should be OK.

And it's possible that the 800's front end has higher sensitivity than your other scanners and it is being overloaded. Try turning on the attenuator.

Well I did it, I dropped the hammer on a PSR800. I hope I enjoy it as much as I'm expecting to.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I have both the Gre-PSR-800 that I recently purchased and a Home Patrol that I have owned for almost 2 years now. I find myself drawn to the GRE (I really like it!) but I am weighing the option of returning within the 30 day trial due to the possibility of no future support. I am really torn…..we’ll see!
