PSR-800 Scannermaster $599
Price went up on Scannermaster's Website. I wonder why?

They probably noticed a flux of people buying and decided to up the prices. Businesses tend to do this after the new year because people spend gift cards etc. just like I did

Yeah with GRE's production of scanners being halted (not permanently, I hope) and the supply of 800s shrinking, I think I'll list my PSR-800 on eBay for auction starting at $750.00 and see how high it goes from there. Dollars to donuts say I would get at least a few bids.
Okay, on second thought, I don't think I will. I like that little beauty too much to sell it off. Then again, I could sell it, and then buy an HP-1 with my obscene profit (only paid $325 for mine). Nah, not a big HP-1 fan. I'll stick with the 800.
LOL.

I wouldn't pay that high of a price either, but I'm sure there's someone out there that is that insane.

while i think that some of scannermasters prices have been way out of line lately, i still have to say, they will price match ANY legit advertised price. not sticking up for them, just pointing out a fact.

It could also be that they just did the Phase II upgrade which makes the radio more valuable considering now other scanners can decode it yet. The price change appears to have happened just after the changelog posted.

nah. i don't think that would justify the added expense. you can do that for free at home. i think they are just trying to capitalize on the supposed scarcity of gre scanner's.
just like, who the heck would want one of the older psr-400's that they are selling now for $300.00, when you can get the revised psr-410 for $169.00.

The price increase is probably a forthcoming shortage or depletion that Scannermaster is acting upon.
I would not trust Universal-Radio.com to have the 800 in stock. A few times I have ordered products from them only to discover 24 - 48 hours later that something is on back order. They do not update their website status to show the out of stock condition because they assume customers will wait in order to get a lower price.

There is no shortage of 800's at all right now in the US. Both scannermaster and universal confirmed this

You are correct. I spoke to a sales rep at universal and they are also quite perturbed by SM's price. that is $100 over the MSRP and there are no shortages of 800's in the us.
let's just say that you need to go deeper than what's on the surface.

Then it sounds like SM is charging a premium because they believe customers will panic due to the recent GRE news? Hopefully, this means more business for Universal, assuming they actually have the 800's in stock. Why would anyone pay $599.95?

I've never tried to take them up on this but this is what they've published on their web site's Low Price Guarantee page

I'm not saying they won't price match, just saying they've left themselves an out.

Anybody buying a scanner or radio of any kind right now is gonna get ripped GRE is going to be at Dayton HAMVENTION and the prices at HAMVENTION get low because for those three days nearly 500,000 people will show up with cash credit gift cards you name it, and every company brings a couple of tons of product that they want to sell not repack and take home with them i mean the door prizes daily are full HF rigs that are like 5,000 $ to buy,so if you can wait wait for DAYTON AND GO if you can't go in person find one of us hams that are going tell us what you want ,give us the money and we will get you the best deal we possibly can and return the product the receipt and the change to you.
