I'm going to guess the Dale County feed? I believe that's the one that had alerts posted while the incident was ongoing.

This is the screenshot from Fox News yesterday. After that, feeds and the RR & Broadcastify sites were down likely due to overwhelming http requests.

Quite possible, I was on here when all of a sudden I started getting server errors and could no longer use Radio Reference.

According to Lindsay, it was a RAID drive failure on the master database server during high traffic yesterday. That damn Mr. Murphy & his law...

"5:31 PM EST: Big Bear-area police scanners have been disabled online to "ensure officer safety." There have been theories that Dorner, an ex-cop, had been listening in to police scanners to help him evade capture."

Christopher Dorner Believed Dead; LAPD Denies Reports That His Body Was Recovered in Burning Cabin

"Shortly after smoke was seen rising from the cabin, police ordered online scanner feeds to be cut having earlier barred networks like CNN from carrying live footage of the scene and telling journalists not to put out tweets."

How did they get the feed shut off?
They sent an email to RR????

The feed wasn't shut off, I listened to the ops right on up through the building collapsing from the fire. In the CA thread they noted the feed provider had an issue when the incident started to ramp up, but until the site crashed they worked fine.

I'm confused! Are you talking about the Dorner case? Or is something going on in Alabama?

Assuming we're talking about the Dorner incident, CNN is also replaying scanner recordings with a credit to RR on screen today.

The recordings being played again and again imply the cabin was set on fire by the police, which brings up questions about whether their tactics were legal or appropriate.

I think this is just going to hasten the implementation of encrypted police radios across the nation as police departments try to avoid this kind of media scrutiny, which obviously puts them in a difficult position it it shows they acted improperly.

It's also the reason decrypting should be legal. If the media -- or even ordinary citizens who often provide this kind of information to the media -- aren't allowed to monitor what the police are really doing, what are we supposed to do, believe their press releases?

Watch how this story unfolds, and then imagine how different it would likely be without the radio recordings.

If all police radio traffic across the country is encrypted that's what your left with, the press and the public are stuck with what the police tell you and the little the press will be able to get at the scene. The relationship between the police and the public has changed over the years and the more they cut the public out the more you distrust them, I guess that's just going to be the way it is.

Yeah
It seemed kind of fishy
Alex Jones IS know for his conspiracy theories though, right?
I was wondering how it would be possible
Seems like they would have to get some emergency subpoena or shutdown order from a judge
That's what I would have told them anyways...hehehhehe

Here's another twist to the dorner saga: They have TWO dorner ID's in their possession.

what i find disturbing is now they don't know WHAT started the fire. I am basing this on YAHOO reports, not AP or any of the networks.

As far as i am concerned with Encryption, This incident proves that Encryption needs to stop and further more, if you scanner hobbyists want something to do, you need to stop arguing over encryption and get out there and stop it/end it! That is the bottom line.

Not trying to faux-Mod, but they've been closing these threads that go into speculation. There's one available in the Rants area.

Bad way to base ANYTHING. Wait for the official release. Don't trust early information, no matter what.

Well, the bottom line is you can't.

In the end, none of the rant is appropriate for this thread.

I have been in the scanner hobby for 27 years, don't tell me nothing can be done, just look at New Orleans and how everybody came together to stop the encryption there.

You people want the govt to walk all over you, that's plain to see and what i posted is NOT a Rant. it's based on FACTS straight from here and other news outlets Rdale.
