Default Digital scanner prices and Phase II

Anyone think prices will drop in the future? Also, Phase II timetable, when started, will make the present scanners obsolete once again. Does anyone make a Phase II scanner yet?

No one really knows, there was a lot possibilities when GRE was still planning for the future. We will see were they end up. I'm sure Uniden has something up their sleeve.

The only Phase II scanner is the GRE PSR-800 with the Beta Firmware.

GRE's PSR-800 is the only scanner that does Phase 2 (and X2) at this point.

As far as prices dropping - doubtful. They'll probably increase for a variety of reasons - mostly because there doesn't appear to be any competition (for Uniden) right now.

I don't know about obsolete -- many jurisdictions just narrowbanded indicating those freqs -although probably limited in their use - will be around for a long time.

As for trunk systems -- my local county is still analog.... (with some digital).

There isn't all that much money out there right now to buy and build new (Phase 2) systems. I just happen to live in an area that is building Phase 2 - Maryland, DC, Philadelphia -- but there are plenty of Motorola, EDACS, and Phase 1 systems around that will probably be there for a while....

with that idea. I too feel that Uniden has something simmering on the back burner and I hope that there will be a reveal in the near future. A gut feeling on my part.

It is not Beta firmware, it is release firmware.

Now don't get your hopes up for Uniden to do Phase 2 just yet. They have to come up with their own proprietary software for that and from what I hear, It's a ***** to work with Phase 2 decoding on TDMA and XDMA.
