Default how do you find out who owns a tower antenna?

I pass 2 on the way to work each day, and have no idea who they belong to.

If they are over 200 ft tall, which requires them to be registered, drive up to the fence and read the ASR # if it's posted. Then look it up in the FCC ASR database. If the placard on the fence is missing there may be a smaller one somewhere on the tower itself (also near ground level). Binoculars may also come in handy in either case, if the road to it is in bad shape for example.

You can also do a vicinity search by LAT/LON on the ASR DB.

Out of curiosity how can you tell? Do you have a better website?

If you have Google Earth you can try FCCInfo - Now on Google Earth!.
It displays among other things all sites in the the FCC ASR database which you can search at ASR Registration Search.

One thing about AntennaSearch.com is that it shows certain low power mobile licenses like this one,
ULS License - Industrial/Business Pool, Conventional License - WNUM893 - Atmos Energy Corporation - Locations Summary, which can sometimes be fixed stations with antennas less than 20' high, as an "antenna site" when in real life the actual radios can be located anywhere within the area of operation radius of that "site".

The website pulls the information from the tower registrations in the FCC database. In my case it was reasonably accurate with the older towers using older company names. Since not all towers have to registered there are going to be some not listed. Depending on where you're at some two-way sites will be at high locations and not need tall towers, therefore won't need to register.

They're more or less just another website blindly pulling data from a database and plotting it on a map. You're not really going to find a global database that's more accurate unless they've got a better system for parsing the data and it will still only be as accurate as the FCC is.

*Very true*, Wayne. I am reminded of a few searches *several* years ago for broadcasters along the Central/Northern Co Frontrange and up into SE/Central Wyo I did. Fortunately, thank you very much, I was lucky enough to have your help straightening things out. It's a shame that those databases aren't as well updated as they could/should be but, it *is* the `gummit' we're dealing with.

Again, kudos to you for being the great source and mentor that you are!
