I am going to purchase a new digital scanner in the near future. (BCD996XT) with the procan software

My question is about my local police freq. is scambled and i was wondering if it is possible to decode it.

If this is not the correct forum or it is illegal please give me a some info on this.

No one uses "scrambling" any more. What they use is digital encryption which can't be decoded by casual listeners like you and me. The government also says to do so is illegal but it's a moot point because it's not possible without first getting the decryption data from the agency which is not possible to do if not authorized.

"digital encryption which can't be decoded by casual listeners"

so if a person just wanted to "experiment" with decoding encryption signal that is not possible with any type of software.

Thanks for the super quick response

There are so many millions of digital signal combinations available that it would take a very long time to find out what one your local agency is using. Also, modern encrypted systems change the codes quite often automatically over the air to the individual radios, so today's code might not be the one in use tomorrow. There's been a ton of discussion about this on this Board, so you can do a search, and you can look in the Board's Wiki section for some of it. This information I've just given you is in addition to the fact that it's a violation of Federal Law to mess with encrypted transmissions.

With this type of question, it is always best to tell us which system or department you wish to monitor. We can look it up in the RR DB and - in many cases - tell you if this is even possible. Some folks consider Phase 2 TDMA to be "scrambled" but there are scanners that can decode it.

Wayne County, Illinois (IL) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Fairfield is not known to be encrypted. However, they are using NXDN, a type of digital that no scanner can currently decode. However, it appears that some have been successful in monitoring such signals using DSD (DSD Wiki Page).

It appears that FPD is the only channel in the county using this...everything else can be monitored, including all of the channels you listed above.

After doing some reading about NXDN i have found some info about a Discriminator Tap modification for my Pro-2066 scanner.

Can somebody tell me what this mod will do and if it works??

THANKS
