State Police were dispatched to a car on fire, which the DOT caught on camera. A few minutes after DOT informed SP that vehicle was fully engulfed, first trooper got on scene, and shortly after FD arrived. A few minutes later the trooper calls in: "52 252 Indianapolis." "52 252." "Indianapolis, we are going to need a flatbed for what used to be an Chevy SUV. I will try to get you the plates as soon as its cool enough to scrape em clean."

A local FD was running a drill, involving a hydrant as a water source. Apparently there was a delay in getting the hydrant flowing.

Unit 1: Want me to open the hydrant for you?
Unit 2: I've got it, it is just taking a few seconds.
Dispatch: Unit 1, dispatch is available...

I heard this a few years ago on the sheriff department dispatch channel. An officer was responding to a public intoxication complaint:

Officer: "Dispatch, I have a rocket scientist laying in the middle of the street on Gray Avenue."
Dispatch: "10-4, we'll contact NASA right away."

Heard earlier tonight:

School Patrol PD: Dispatch, disregard suspicious persons in (name of school) parking lot. They are just some neighborhood residents watching fireworks and eating grilled cheese sandwiches.

Heard several days ago on either Edgefield County, SC or Richmond County, GA Sheriffs feed:

HQ: (unit number) What is your location?
Deputy: Calls out location (I was only passively listening until next line)
HQ: (Irate) What the hell are you doing down there? You need to be in your regular zone on the opposite side of the county!
(30-45 seconds of silence)
HQ: (unit number) Come back to the station, now.

I truly wish I could remember the day/time/feed to pull the audio for that!

I heard a fire department call out for a suburbs address, nature was that the callers "Satellite dish on the back of the house is smoking, they put the fire out...want it checked out". I knew what the call was going to end up being from the time it went out....and sure enough...no chatter other than one fire unit calling another to say to call him on the phone, then for a SO deputy to respond. Later heard the dispatcher tell the deputy when he finished at XXX Rd, to got to ZZ lane for same issue.

It's fireworks time folks....you've been had! It'll take you a week to find your cat, too!

Heard a call yesterday...for an ambulance on fire. Link to the story. Looks like one of the private ambulance companies...not a regular EMS rig.

Link to the story with pics. No injuries reported from ambulance fire in Lemoyne - abc27 WHTM

Not funny or odd, but interesting (and developing while I type)....

On local college grounds, report of individual stopping and asking a young lady for the time, and when she pulled her cell phone out of her purse, short Hispanic male grabbed phone and took off running. Passerby called campus police who in turn called city police. Listening to both departments coordinate search for individual.

I love having multiple scanners running at the same time.

On a related note, this is the second time I've heard this on a scanner. Seems like stealing a cell phone in this fashion is the latest trend among thieves.

Heard this 07/09, couldn't see the scanner from where I was and heard no unit ID...may have been DX, I'm not familiar with the street names:

Officer: "Central, advise them that this is going to be back a long lane, right at the intersection of Rush and Limbaugh...uh, check that, RUSH ST. and LOUISVILLE ROAD..."

Dispatcher: "Clear on Rush St. and LOUISVILLE road."

Guess he'd been listening to a little too much EIB...

Just listening to Denver CO fire. Truck 19 was dispatched to a lock out. The dispatcher was saying parties were trapped in a mini storage. He was also saying how this is the second time this has happened tonight.

Heard yesterday evening while driving around....

Dispatch: Paul-4

Paul-4: Go ahead.

Dispatch: See the manager of the Family Dollar at 1901 XXXX Road. Reference a customer that's using the deodorant in the aisle.

Paul-4: 10-4, enroute.

A few minutes pass...

Paul-4: Paul-4 10-23 at the deodorant caper.

Dispatch: (with a very audible chuckle) 10-4.

Unfortunately, never did hear the outcome of the "deodorant caper." Scanner was probably locked onto a different system when Paul-4 reported back in. Need to keep a scanner recording just my hometown from now on while I'm out. Don't want to miss the fun.
