Listening to local emergency dispatches the other night. I heard one for a vehicle accident. While this is not funny it turned out that the accident was in my neighbors yard approx. 200 ft from my house. Never heard a thing. The young lady was OK, but the car was a mess.

Earlier tonight I heard an officer pull over a vehicle that was traveling with no rear driver side tire.

RDGDIGITAL, several; years ago at a Rally, had some Polish drivers from chicago doing 100+ on a transit road on three wheel. Two front and one rear. They had one rear and one rim, no tire.Transit roads, were blacktop, 55 mph average roads. State HP stopped them, taken to court for a "come to Jesus" session with the Judge.

Went on a vehicle fire call, with no vehicle found at the dispatched intersection. There was a little groove in the freshly repaved blacktop, that headed the same direction that PD said they had gone. (The road had just been resurfaced; I think the stripes had not even been painted yet.)

Turned out to be a car going down the road with just a rim, for one wheel. When the PD found the car, at a gas station, said wheel was still glowing.

Several years ago I spotted a Roadrailer type trailer dropped at the side of the road with one set of rail wheels dropped. For the next 30 miles, there was a groove in the pavement with an occasional matching groove every so often.

Yesterday someone keyed up on our County Wide Fire channel. Asked if anyone was out there. The dispatcher answered and asked the person to identify himself. Which the person did, and explained that he had found the radio lying in the street and wanted to make sure it was returned to the proper agency. The man gave his cell phone number for the dispatcher to call him so an agency officer could pick up the radio.

Odd as it may be, it is a definite good thing the radio made it back into the proper hands.

Overheard a supervisor call off a surveillance by saying, "He just took my picture with his cell phone. Let's come back later."

I made the suggestion to them that they stop putting cat food out if they didn't want stray cats around, and that if they did the cats would probably stay away. I think we can all well imagine what some of those "other suggestions" were..."stop wasting our time" comes immediately to mind!
Oh man I hate those Time Waster calls. I about give myself an ulcer with the ire that rises in me when I hear them and I wonder what is stopping our officials from just telling these callers it's not their problem and not to waste the American TAX payer's dollar$$$ with that nonsense.

One of those calls which happened a while back was some oldster on Medicare who regularly yes this is a regular call, he would whiz his mobility scooter into town til the battery ran out of juice thus forcing himself to be rescued. Daily basis. There are the people who use the ambulance services as a free taxi. There was even a newspaper article about it, and how a city had to start a special taxi service for these people to SAVE money. Yes, a free taxi for bums so the city wouldn't lose millions by them abusing the ambulance service.
There's another local guy here who the police know well whenever he gets detained he pulls the old "seizure" stunt. You can see the cops' sneering in his voice when he calls for Fire & Medical. Listening to the scanner you really hear what's going on. I get a kick out of hearing the cops or dispatch "attitude" sometimes even though they try to hide it.

Truth. Goes double for those who work EMS in small, rural communities where "everyone knows everybody"

When I worked EMS in downstate IL either I or my ex- knew everyone in the area.

When my mother-in-law had her MI (mild - she survived it), my father-in-law called the ambulance director over the phone, he "dispatched" the ambulance over the phone and told the responding crew to stay off the radio because Unit 2 (that was me) was listening. They maintained radio silence until they made their MERCI patient report and by then they were out of radio range.
