I'm seeing a lot of stuff from motorola pushing these MOTOTRBO radios.
How do they work? They're NOT p25 are they?

What else changed?newtoscanning said:I worked at a hockey arena a few weeks ago and all of the staff got new turbo's. I asked them how they are and they all hate them. They use to have old traditional radios and they want them back, but...to late...and all they do is work inside the arena.

N_Jay said:MotoTrbo is two slot TDMA.
It is not trunked.
It is targeted at the business user.
It is not P25
It is a ETSI standard,
It does not appear to have a second source (yet).
Think of it like an improved 2 channel community repeater system running on one channel.
TDMA is not "on the way out".
ICOM's digital is NOT the same as Motorola's MOTOTRBO!n1das said:Second source is ICOM. Check out the F3061 (VHF) / F4061 (UHF) portables. ICOM in the UK also has a PMR446 version over there.

n1das said:OK, then what is specifically different between the two? Both use the same ETSI TS-102 361-1 standard.
Note that I'm NOT referring to Icom's P25 portables and mobiles.
