I'm kinda of new to scanning, I have a 396t and a bc3000xlt I keep hearing that you can hear the space shuttle. I have put in as many frqs. as I can find but still don't seem to get anything. Also there are some frqs. that have numbers that I don't know how to put in, ie. 8520.3 is there a way to get transmitions on these with the units I have?
Thanks

On the East coast I've heard STS117 and STS118 on 259.7 during their ascent to orbit, about 3-5 minutes after liftoff.

You didn't offend me, I was just pointing you in the right direction. There is a lot of good info that you could use in the link I posted above. You could also check in your states forum for some more local help.

The only way you'll hear direct comms from them, is if they land at Edwards. Last time I got about 5 transmissions as they came over, which is about all they made anyway. They switch to the UHF as they get close to the ground. I forget what freq it is, but it's one of the three dedicated 225-400 freqs that have been allocated to them forever. I'm sure you probably have them on a list already. But if they ever land at Edwards again, just scan through those three and you should get them as they come over. You can also sometimes hear the recon plane talking to CapComm Weather on one of those before the shuttle shows up.

Thanks for the info. Dubbin I didn't mean it that way I thought maybe I was using this sight the wrong way, like maybe there was a different way I should be asking. Again Thanks to all.

147.150 from JPL Pasadena carries the shuttle audio. Freq is active right now.

Thanks brandon, I'll keep an ear out on that one. Nice shot of the "M" I get a look at the "C" from my side.
