gopeder99 It would help us help you if you gave us some more info such as city County State where you want to listen to. that way we can check the database to see what type of scanner you would need. Also what agencies you want to monitor.........Good Luck and Good Scannin Hoser

It really depends upon where you live and what system you want to listen to if the system is digital it can only be heard on a digital scanner. In order to tell you what you need we have to know about where you live, such as State, County, City etc.

yeah, it depends on your location, i understand why people wouldnt want to put their location on their profiles, but it would make things a lot easier.

radio systems can be either conventional or trunked modes.
radio systems can be digital or analog in either conventional or trunked mode.
digital radio systems can be Project 25 which means the top of the lines can decode them or they can be Open sky or Provoice in which case no scanner will decode them. Non-digital either conventional or trunked systems can be picked up by any trunked scanner. That is very simplistic and there are a few other things, but it covers 98% of systems.

Digital Trunking scanners cost over $500 so its too much for most people.

I didnt not put my info in my profile for any reason, i just registered and didnt have a Chance..

I Live in Brick, Which is in Ocean County, New Jersey

Honestly im not looking to listen to trains or airplanes or anything like that, Mainly Police, Ems,Fire, Emergency Services type stuff

I Had a Uniden BearCat BC80Xlt, and i had all police and fire freqs i could find on the computer, but it seemed that there was barley ever any police talking, like there was times where i had it on and there was nothing being said for like an hour.. and i know cops have to have been on there radios sometime between that hour

Also how is that pro 80, nascar scanner? i would obviously delete the nascar codes, but how is it otherwise, i can get one on ebay for like 70 bucks?

Either way, im looking for somthing thats picks up alot, holds a good ammount of channels, but also is at a cheap price

What does that comment have to do with the discussion?

the wiki is your friend :)
http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Trunking

here is a list of analog trunking scanners:
http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Category:Analog_Trunktrackers

I travel to Ocean Co NJ about 3 or 4 times a year, my BCT-15 and Pro-97 work just fine ... there are a few P25 talk groups but not enough for me to justify a $500 digital scanner ... I agree with the previous post on the Pro-97 ... if you can hold out until Black Friday you can probably snag one for $150 or maybe even $99 if we get lucky on the sales that day at radio shack ... you could also look into the Pro-528 (doesn't have text tags) or the BCT246 (similar to the BCT15 but its handheld) ... good luck :)

edit: the 82 and 84 will work ok if you dont want to listen to the trunked radio systems ... there are plenty of conventional (non-trunked) frequencies to listen to in Ocean Co and Atlantic Co ... my 2cents
