I have recently acquired a radio shack pro-97 scanner. I find all of this stuff very interesting, but obviously it comes with a steep learning curve, which I am prepared for. I would like to know how to go about programing my scanner. I live in the Murrieta/Temecula area of Riverside county in California. So far. I've figured out how to tune into the Murrieta PD, but I would like to know what else is available. I'm open to pretty much anything. Any advice anyone could provide is more than welcome.

The best way to do it is to pick up a USB scanner programming cable at Radio Shack for about $30, then download the trial of Win97 here: http://www.starrsoft.com/software/win97/default.asp

Actually, you need Win97 for the Pro-97.
