Wow scanners have came a long way from way back when. I remember my first scanner 16 channel Uniden BC 175XL. I couldn't go back to something with so few channels. I still have it but only listen to the Storm Spotters and Military police.

my first true scanner was a Regency 30 channel with a horrible key-beep and noisy VFD display. I ended up putting a pot in line with the speaker line and turning everything down, then cranking the actual scanner volume, just so the key beep wasn't so loud.

Great scanner, though, it served me well for many years even after I ripped the cases off and used its discriminator out to listen to packet.

WOW, a 50 channel Bearcat 300 digital crystalless scanner with 7 Bands including Aircraft for only $336.99!!!

I sure wish I had seen this before I spent all that money on my Uniden BCD396T... ;)

This is great - really makes you appreciate how far scanning technology has come. I'm amazed by the prices too. That $336 (1980 dollars) is closer to $900 in today's dollars!

At first glance the display on the Bearcat 220 looks messed up. Had to do a double take when I saw P19dL121.25 on the display. Guessing that translates to priority, chan. 19, delay on, Lockout on, and the frequency readout? And to think all of that is stored in nifty "space-age memory banks"!

I like the Communications Electronics ad, 2nd column, 2nd paragraph - "bone chilling maydays on 121.5".

Their ads haven't changed much - check out their ad for the BC396T where they say it was designed for "population attack warning".

Ah, well, you were supposed to say "They had Maxwell Smart selling scanners." To which I could have replied "I told you not to tell me that!" :)

I'm off to the cone of silence.

In the Vintage Scanner Group there are files of some RadioShack Catalog pages for those fans.
