I was thinking about buying THIS earpiece. Does anyone have it? How does it work? What is the black 90 degree thing above the clothing clip?

Thanks for your input.

I have one similar to this that I bought on Ebay. Works very very well, and makes discrete listening much easier. The '90 degree thing' is basically the connection between the acoustic tube and the mechanical part of the ear piece. On mine it will rotate to whatever angle you want and also has the clip to hold it to your clothing. I made a 2nd ear piece like this by just buying the tubing and ear piece portion on Ebay. I then took a regular plain 'ole Radio Shack ear plug that I had and drilled the hole out a little bit so the tubing would slide snugly into it. A few drops of Krazy Glue to hold it in place... walla! Works like a charm.

I have one and it works great. "Forts" is right on the money, the black thing is basically the speaker, the sound travels through the clear tube.

ahhhh I get it now, thanks guys.

Do you happen to recall how much you paid on ebay? I dunno, $30 (shipped) seems a bit much. Great idea with the homemade one. Maybe I'll try that.

Thanks forts!

Ah, but yes, then you're a whacker.

I used to use them at my old job with the Jedi-Style Hirose adapter on our XTS's. They can get uncomfortable after a while of wearing them, but the sound quality is generally good. I had also used the type that Mike Gilbert is selling in the for sale forums. Those are also nice, and a little less bothersome than the clear-coiled tube ones.

Was just looking for a surveillance-style "Secret Service" type of earpiece myself recently for some discrete monitoring. In Vegas it would be nice to keep my scanner with me wherever I happen to be, and the cool thing nowadays is so many people have cellphones with earpieces, or even Bluetooth ones, that casinos (they're all over Vegas, you know) are really antsy if they see you walk in with anything that looks like an actual "radio" for whatever reason.

But if you can mask the view, so to speak, they'll just think you're just another idiot with a cellphone. So much the better...

Anyway, after doing some research I found this guy:

http://stores.ebay.com/Dynamic-Designs

so I plan to get one of the receive/listen-only earpieces from him with the 3.5mm plug for my just acquired 246T that I've loaded up with nearly every single casino comm system here in Vegas over the past 12 hours or so. Gotta love dynamic memory. :) And his prices... wow... they're absolutely astonishing, as I'm sure you can see, and he's got 99.9% positive feedback - what more could you ask for?

If you want "them" to think you have a cell phone, then get an earpiece that looks like it belongs to one.. JMHO.

Hmmmm Casino comms.....Now that could be interesting....
"Security 1, subject located. "
"Security base, bring subject to managers office for interrogation"
"Security 1 copy...should I ask the pimp how much?"

hehe

Could be fun though to see someone getting busted for cheating tho.

Well I live in downtown Las Vegas, about 2 blocks (maybe 1400 feet) from the geographic center of the entire area so I can pick up nearly every single casino comm system as long as they're broadcasting with enough RF power. A lot of them, especially the ones using trunked systems, limit the power they're radiating so I can't hear Jack from 'em - one example is the Excalibur which is about 4.7 miles point-to-point from where I'm sitting right now. I can't hear diddly from 'em at this location, but if I get within about 1 mile of the casino I can pick 'em up again.

All the downtown stuff here is within 1/2 mile of me and easily monitored and can be pretty fun sometimes. Also, I can pick up the Fremont Street Experience security and know what drunk fell where during the evening lightshows, or when a pickpocket is popped. Interesting, to say the least...

But yeah, I've been wanting an earpiece for a long time, and when I get some cash on hand I'll be ordering one from Dynamic Designs off the link I posted above. The price is simply amazing... I have no issue paying good money for a quality product, but $100+ for an earpiece from Motorola? Get real...

I have one of those. My main complaint is that the earpiece won't stay in my ear, it keeps slipping out.

They also sell some custom ear mold kits that allow you to take a mold of your ear and send it to them, and from that they make an earpiece custom fitted to your ear.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I have one of these ear pieces and the sound is "escaping" through the 90 degree part where the acoustic tube and the mechanical part connect. Is this normal and is there a way to correct it? The connection seems to be tight and sung, but the sound still "escapes".

Thanks for any and all advise!
