Hey guys. I'm fairly new to scanning, but I'm looking for an antenna that would work with my Uniden Nascar scanner. (I think BC72XLT is the model) It's great but I want to get a bit better range out of it. I use it strictly for monitoring railroad frequencies. (160-161 mhz) What antennas are good for a scanner such as this? I don't care how big and bulky it is. Also, what would the price range be?

Thanks!

A very popular antenna is the Diamond RH77CA. You can check it out at Universal (other dealers carry it as well), at this link:

They sell two models, you want to be sure you get the RH77CA (not the SRH77CA as that has an SMA connector on it instead of the BNC type like your scanner uses). I think you would be happy with that antenna for your rail scanning.

Good luck!
