Default State Police Emergency Warning

On Arkansas State Police Mot Type II system .............I heard the dispatcher tell her trooper that his emergency alert was activated. This is the second time in a week I have heard this statement but my scanner hasn't picked up anything. Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that the Emergency Alert on the BC246T was supposed to alert me when the alert was activated? Can someone explain this to me please. I originaly thought that is what the status bit was supposed to do but on the 246 it has both status bit and emergency alert, both of which are turned on in that system. Thanks in advance for any replies.

What the dispatcher was talking about is what has been called in the field as the "OH S*** key". It is a little red button on the top of the radio that is not to be pressed unless you are in trouble. That is why it is oh so easy to set the thing off. It is part of the big eye in the sky, when you press it it sends a signle for that radio so they know it is the radio assigned to patrolman ...... or E74's FF or Capt. or eng. They have also put these nice little buttons on the radio heads in the units right where the vol. button is on the old radios so at night when you are try to reach up and turn the vol. down you set it off. I love this new system we are getting whenever we go to it.

What he's asking is why the emergency alert did not go off on the 246T... You might ask that in your state's forum and see if anyone knows about any system specialties.

I know that here in Utah it is a seperate talkgroup (ie, OPS Channel) designed specificly for the emergency channel. It is suposto be like a "open mic" channel. But you do have to program in the talk group in order to recieve the transmission.
