Default "Rollback" as in tow truck?g

Alright, from listening to my local transit authority, I always hear the buses and bus supervisors say something to the nature of...

"They are loading that vehcile on the rollback."

I guess they just mean a flat bed tow truck, which seems to be what I come up with on a Google search?

Yeah, it's a flatbed hauler. The rear end of the bed tips down and the vehicle is winched on board.

Yup it means the same thing. It depends on the area where each word is used.
I think East Coast uses the word "Rollback" and West Coast mostly use Flatbed".

It's funny hearing someone say 'Rollback' in California! Since we use 'Flatbed' in this state.
sometime we get people that moves to this state and they bring the word with them

Just like "Towing" or "Wrecker" in the Yellow Pages phone book. When you travel across the country or stay at hotels. You will notice some put it under "Wrecker" or "Towing".

That's exactly what it is. It's a regional thing... some call them flatdecks or flatbeds, others rollbacks or tray trucks. Then, of course, there are the regular tow trucks, dolly trucks, wreckers, hooks, stinger trucks, etc.

In the fifties and sixties we called those "tilt-beds". Then they figured out how to roll them back and they became flat beds and roll backs.

Pretty soon everything will be plastic and crumble at an accident so they will show up with a vaccum, suck up all the pieces throw the engine in the back seat and go.

I'd like to think we'd just come up with a biodegradable car, then we could save on some outlandish towing fees by just sweeping the wreck off in to the median.

Roll back and flatbed are both used in the greater Allen County area.

Flatbed, rollback, tiltbed, etc are really generic terms depending upon where in the country you're standing. The industry refers to them as "carriers" (car carrier, equipment carrier, industrial carrier, etc).

Well that makes a lot of sense, though to me, it makes much more sense to say Flatbed, even if my area (Johnstown, PA) appearntly uses rollback.

I understand tiltbed as well, but rollback at first kinda threw me off as to what the heck are they talking about?
