Squelch Is Backwards On 250D
Okay, am I the only that noticed this? You have to turn squelch to the right to open up squelch, not left. Isn't it to the left on most radios? Is it the same on the 296D?

I have a 785D, 796D, 235xlt, 245xlt & 200xlt all of which open the squelch when turning to the RIGHT. Only my Pro2005 opens squelch LEFT.

I noticed that too, feels weird after using the CB and the ham radio which go the other direction. Also, to answer the above post, you turn the volume to the right to make it louder.

My BC250D is the opposite!
My BC250D is the opposite! I turn the squelch knob to the left and it opens the squelch, to the right closes the squelch.
[Edit:]
Wait, disregard that. I had the scanner upside-down.

I don't know, it seems that on all radios, wether scanners, ham, business, PS, that squelch is a lefty. Why did Uniden make it backward?

Because electrically speaking and in most squelch circuits, squelch open to the right is the electrically logical direction according to what the squelch pot actually does, but as far as the human tradition goes (more is CW, less is CCW), increasing the squelch action dictates that the control goes CW for more squelch action. GE radios were rightys while MotherMotos and most others were lefties. Personally speaking, I have no preference, only that it does what it's supposed to do, and I don't particularly like pushbutton up/down squelch controls at all, and as for "preset" squelch control with no operator options, I hope I'm smart enough to decide for myself where the squelch needs to be set.

Agreed to. It's just that last night I had the 250 on something conventional for once, and tried turning the squelch to left out of habit, and nothing happened. Took me a second in my old age of sixteen years to figure it out.

I also agree, but for some of the older trunkers, they had the option for auto squelch tuning during trunking. Anyone remember those?

My BC860XLT, a conventional scanner, has an autosquelch option, which I utilize...
Most professional radio that I've used don't have a user-selectable squelch knobs...
